Back again!! We now have a top three! Baby girl due in five weeks! No negativity to any of the names please as she will more then likely end up as one, I do know they aren't to everyone's taste. But our current list is;

Juniper (my absolute favourite)
Pepper (husband adores this name)
Nessie (we both quite like)

Just opinion on which you would go for please as I said no negativity on any, took us forever to agree on three 😂

Thank you ladies xxx

Juniper, nickname could be Pepper?

Babyboomtastic · 04/05/2021 17:16

How important is it being unusual to you?

The reason I ask is that although Juniper is still roughly 500th in popularity (as of the data 2 years ago) it's been steadily increasing in popularity for a decade, from around 2500th to where it is now.

So it's still fairly unusual now, but it may well not be in a few years. Obviously you run the risk with that, with any name, but it has been steadily on the up, in case it's popularity is important to you.

I like Pepper best, but irrespective of how it's spelled, she'd always be linked with Peppa, and I wouldn't name her that out of fairness.

Nessie make me think of Nessa from G&S first and then the monster. I think it could give her some challenges.

Pinkpepper9 · 04/05/2021 17:18

Juniper! Pepper is a bit like a pet name. Not keen on Nessie.

AnxiousAnnie86 · 04/05/2021 17:19

@Babyboomtastic to be honest it's not about how rare it is as we have some fairly well known ones on the list, and giving her the middle name
Amelia, I just think it is a beautiful name x

@Chanel05

I like Juniper of the three.

Nessie and Pepper are a big no for me. Baby names should always be reflected on as the 35/42 year old with the same name.

This is a sentiment I'd generally agree with. However, that's one of the reasons I wouldn't call a child Juniper.

Vanessa's nice enough, with Nessie/Nessa as a diminutive.

Juniper

Nessie, it's my mum's name and it's a middle name for my daughter. I like it.
Retrievemysanity · 04/05/2021 17:23

Out of the 3, Juniper is my fave-very pretty with lots of nice nickname/shortened name options. Pepper is just insane because even with the different spelling, everyone will think of the pig and it’s not a nice association to have although the name is ok in itself (to be honest though, it’s more of a name for a dog or other pet). I do like Nessie/Nessa as a shortened version of Vanessa but not as a name on its own. Good luck with the birth!

Babyboomtastic · 04/05/2021 17:24

So initials JAH, NAH or PAH.

I think with those initials, it's be swayed by JAH, as they other two are maybe a bit negative.

Not that initials are everything, and PAH isn't awful or anything, but I did reject a suggestion with one of mine as he would have been PEE 😂

Tsubasa1 · 04/05/2021 17:25

Juniper

BreatheAndFocus · 04/05/2021 17:25

I like Juniper most of those by far. I also feel it’s a name that would work for her at any age and in any situation. The others I don’t think that.

I would think a Pip was Pippa or Philippa though, and with such a beautiful name as Juniper I’d want a nickname that was closer to it eg Juni or June or Juno, etc.

Adelais · 04/05/2021 17:28

Love Juniper.

Pepper makes me think of Peppa Pig

Nessie is ok though sounds more of a nickname

SecretIdentitee · 04/05/2021 17:28

As Pepper Potts is actually Virginia and Pepper is a nickname (due to her Freckles and red hair in the comics) you should definately be able to persuade your Dh that Pepper is best as a nickname.
Love Juniper and Pepper does work as a nn for it.

CaraherEIL · 04/05/2021 17:29

I think Pepper she will get called pig and Nessie a monster. I think indulging yourself with a name you love that is an open invitation to teasing for your child is a bad plan. Children who want to be cruel will look for the easiest option to latch onto something so obvious. I understand that you think your choice is whimsical and charming but it is just a choice driven by your own ego. That is not meant to be cruel but think about your child’s reality. Based on that Juniper is the only option.

Babyboomtastic · 04/05/2021 17:32

Although I'm not personally particularly keen on Juniper, I like that it can easily be shortened to June if she prefers that when she's older. It's easier to shorten than the others

It's also amazing how prior can get used to unusual names, and they soon become just that childs name, so if you both like it, that's the main thing. I have friends children with much more unusual names that now suit them perfectly and I like, even though I thought wtf at the time!

CaraherEIL · 04/05/2021 17:32

Yes, saw previous poster could call her Juniper with Pepper as a family nickname and then if she wants to she can easily be Juno or something at school, if you do that you could combine two of your faves.

babbaloushka · 04/05/2021 17:33

Have you thought of Tessa/Tessie?

Snally82 · 04/05/2021 17:33

Juniper!

Pepper is either Peppa Pig or Pepper Potts from IronMan for me! Or my guinea pig from when I was young!

Nessie only makes me think of the monster.

CaraherEIL · 04/05/2021 17:36

What about Piper, really beautiful but no cartoon connotations.

Tambourina · 04/05/2021 17:38

Not my taste, but out of the three it would have to be Juniper with nn of June, Junie.

ODFOx · 04/05/2021 17:47

Definitely Juniper.
Pepper sounds like Peppa Pig
Nessie is the weakest of the three. Too nicknamey , too Loch Nessy.

AnyaMoondial · 04/05/2021 17:48

Juniper nn pepper sounds perfect to me! Then you both get to use the name you love.

SteveArnottsCodeine · 04/05/2021 17:53

Pepper - despite being spelled differently- has the unfortunate pig associations. Juniper makes me think about gin. How about Vanessa with nickname of Nessie? I like Nessie but it feels a bit nicknamey, so I’d want a “proper” name for her to use if she wanted.

MrsPsmalls · 04/05/2021 17:56

Vanessa then Juniper . Pepper not at all

SelkieFly · 04/05/2021 17:56

I like Pepper best. It sounds fresh and genuinely unusual without being at all weird!
Juniper is ok. Fair few out there so it is unusual still but not that original.

Nessie is the monster. Really dislike it.
