Pronounced Ray Monde
Anyone like this name?

Ha ha ha OP, no Raymond doesn't work on a girl - it would be cruel imo. Stick with similar (but feminine) Rosamond - that's vintage too but not strange/teasable like Raymond on a girl. Or just call her Rae - quite modern but cool, and not that dissimilar to retro Mae.

daisypond · 11/01/2021 17:10

Raymonde - with the E - is a girl’s name. And Raymonda is too - made famous by the ballet.

northernmonkeymummy · 11/01/2021 17:16

It's a bad enough name for a middle aged man let alone a baby girl.
I'm sure this has to be a joke post? Maybe Op needs to watch Only Fools and Horses "Raymondo"

Erictheavocado · 11/01/2021 17:17

I would be surprised if any of the Millies, Evies or Mollies you referred to are boys OP.

However, I say go ahead with your name choice. It will give staff something to laugh about when your child starts school.

Redburnett · 11/01/2021 17:17

No.

Edgeoftheledge · 11/01/2021 17:18

That is so awful

CuntasarusRex · 11/01/2021 17:23

No..

What about Rae. Raya. Rayanna

mamaoffourdc · 11/01/2021 17:35

I love Rae

Ellmau · 11/01/2021 17:52

Raymonde, spelt thus, is actually an acceptable French girl's name, pronounced roughly how you want. Go with that.

Raymond is not a good idea.

EvieBoo2 · 11/01/2021 17:53

Awful. Sorry x

Londonnight · 11/01/2021 17:54

No, it is a boy's name

ElsaSchraeder · 11/01/2021 19:30

My daughter Dereque has had no trouble with her name, nor has her best friend Ianne.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 11/01/2021 19:35

I'm not assuming I can control how other people pronounce the name and won't be crying if people get it wrong.
I just think it's cool and modern.

Why oh why?? The kid will get the absolute shit ripped out of her at school. Seriously OP, this is not about your views on what's edgy and cool and what's not. The kid has to live the consequences of the name....

TroosAndShoes · 11/01/2021 19:42

@Hoppinggreen

gender fluid lovers of retro is a great name for a band though
In my head I'm singing it to the tune of "Dedicated Follower of Fashion".
finallychangedmyusername · 11/01/2021 19:52

I know of a female Raymonde (with emphasis on the second syllable - Ray-MONDE). She's constantly explaining to people that she's female.

I'm not a fan of the name. Would recommend Rachel (nicknamed Rae, at a push).

jambeforeclottedcream · 11/01/2021 20:11

No

The fact that you have to go back 140 years to back up your argument for your cool and modern name says it all.

Poor kid you could tell everyone you meet how it's spelt but there will be that one person who won't or you will miss

HeronLanyon · 11/01/2021 20:18

Although if we think for a moment about nigella and Frederica and Philomena etc . .
It’s still a no from me.
Prefer raymonda spelling if you must.

Chilldonaldchill · 11/01/2021 20:35

@Snog

Since 1880, 632 girls were named Raymond in the USA. It is more usual as a boys name but it can be a girl's name too.
I bet you every one of them had a dad called Raymond. It's a very American thing for men to want their name to be carried on for some reason.
PrivateParty · 11/01/2021 20:44

Nope.

mathanxiety · 11/01/2021 21:14

I know a woman from Quebec named Raymonde, pronounced with the emphasis on 'monde'.

I think it's lovely. I would spell it with the E as that is more correct.

MercyBodle · 12/01/2021 06:03

I like Raymonde, the French name. I don't see why you couldn't use that. Just be prepared that you may have to explain and spell it out, but then you have to do that with all sorts of more common names.

babynamelover · 12/01/2021 06:07

I know a girl with this as her middle.

mumnowformerrockstar · 12/01/2021 06:13

It's awful sorry . Reminds me of ray romano and his annoying voice.

mumnowformerrockstar · 12/01/2021 06:19

@LunaNorth

At least everybody will love her.

mumnowformerrockstar · 12/01/2021 06:23

Raymond for a girl is almost as bad as naming her Douglas
