It could work but only if you spell it Raymond with the underlining and insist that everyone uses this style forever.

Monde isn't pronounced the same as it is in Raymond. It's pronounced Mon-Day. I know a lovely lady with this name from Zambia. I like Rae. Together they sound a bit silly obviously.

Please for the love of god do not do this to your daughter, I have a pretty run of the mill name and have spent all my life spelling it or correcting the pronunciation of it, I would give my eye teeth to have been a Jane or a Sarah or a Rebecca.

What about using the french convention of prefixing a name with Marie? For instance, Marie-Gary. Or Marie-Dave?

Raymonda is a ballet. It's set in the Castle of Doris, if you're looking for a middle name as well?
Seems a shame to use Doris as a middle name when she could save it for a future son.

You'd still be in trouble with Sarah @GreyHare, because people will always ask the pronunciation of that, after they've seen it written down (therefore not Sara)

Actually my name is bog standard and classic, but there is another possible spelling, so I've been asked to spell it out a few times.
Mostly it's the surname that's problematic though.

I'm surprised people think it's so unusual - I've come across a fair few French Raymondes who are female so it seems very usual to me.

This always happens when old fashioned names make a come back I think, initially people are all OMG so old fashioned and then a few years later the names are back in the top 50 like Molly Evie Milly etc
