Brian, pronounced Bry Ann

Snog · 11/01/2021 13:50

This always happens when old fashioned names make a come back I think, initially people are all OMG so old fashioned and then a few years later the names are back in the top 50 like Molly Evie Milly etc

I just think it's cool and modern.

You're wrong.

WhenPidgeonsCry · 11/01/2021 13:52

Matthew but with the emphasis on the second syllable.

Ma-THEW

Snog · 11/01/2021 13:52

Generally lots of people like to bring back their grandparents names.

Raymonde - it's a beautiful female French name which is now quite rare, but it wasn't in the early 20th century.

Just doesn't work in English unfortunately.

It's not that it is old fashioned it is that it is old fashioned and a male name. Just because a few Americans have used it for girls doesn't make it a female name.

Was your grandmother called Raymond?

Yeah loads of people like to name their sons after their grandmothers, and their daughters after their grandfathers.

Oh wait....

SmudgeButt · 11/01/2021 13:54

I don't even like it as a name for a boy. So no.

CorvusPurpureus · 11/01/2021 13:55

I think this was a thing in mediaeval France, to be fair.

I think it's rather pretty, but she'd definitely spend her entire life being assumed to be male via email etc. Which might not necessarily be a bad thing...🧐

Ineedalargeone · 11/01/2021 13:55

Oh dear. Poor child

VinylDetective · 11/01/2021 13:56

If you really want your daughter to be plagued her entire life fill your boots.

TalbotAMan · 11/01/2021 13:57

Look on the bright side. If she grows up trans, he won't need a new name.

NanuNanuM · 11/01/2021 13:58

Everybody Loves Ray Monde

What about Doreen?

Gogreengoblin · 11/01/2021 13:59

'Taymond perhaps' GrinGrinGrin
Scraping the barrel there
Raymond tho?? Confused

ivfbeenbusy · 11/01/2021 13:59

@Snog

Since 1880, 632 girls were named Raymond in the USA. It is more usual as a boys name but it can be a girl's name too.

Using the USA as an example of a great baby naming nation is ridiculous......I mean...they are responsible for the most ridiculously awful (shit) names that have ever been said out loud

Anyway... Whatever way you pronounce it sounds bloody awful.

NoOneOwnsTheRainbow · 11/01/2021 14:00

Have you considered Trevor?
Or Derek?
As the victim of some bloody stupid naming, I urge you to reconsider. I deed polled as soon as I was 18 so then it didn't matter where the stress was on the syllables.

SoupDragon · 11/01/2021 14:00

Yeah loads of people like to name their sons after their grandmothers, and their daughters after their grandfathers.

I called my son Frances for this very reason. Wink

Gogreengoblin · 11/01/2021 14:01

'Keith' or 'Nigel' would be even betterGrin

Catty1720 · 11/01/2021 14:01

I’ve gone through my whole life people saying oh cat what’s that short for and that’s annoying (my fault for shortening name) I can’t imagine going through life having to pronounce my name to everyone because they say it wrong but your child your call

DeciduousPerennial · 11/01/2021 14:01

This cannot possibly be a serious suggestion

NanuNanuM · 11/01/2021 14:01

Ooh yes, Derekica sounds good.

bobbojobbo · 11/01/2021 14:03
