Are you in the US, OP? If so, the name might be received differently. If you're in the UK you might as well call your daughter Robert, Duncan or Trevor.

24HoursInPoliceCustody · 11/01/2021 13:27

What a awful name

HermioneWeasley · 11/01/2021 13:27

@LunaNorth I had the same reaction

How about Kevinne or Trevorre?

Snog · 11/01/2021 13:28

Very unpopular on mumsnet it seems!
I might try on netmums for more opinions

So many American women given the name Raymond Confused

Could that possibly be some confusion with the Irish name RAYNud (that's how it's pronounced). Spelt Raonaid.

I'm grasping at straws but I don't understand how anybody could call a baby girl Raymond.

Changethetoner · 11/01/2021 13:28

Do you live in the USA? How popular is the name where you actually live? How do you think it will go down, in your local area? Are local people likely to adhere to your preferred pronunciation. Will you be upset if they don't.

Hmm

You’ll get told

“Oh hun! It’s your bubz and totally your choice”

Zofloratheexplora · 11/01/2021 13:30

R'Monde would work better for your preferred pronunciation

YakkityYakYakYak · 11/01/2021 13:30

Stop 😂😂

WiseOwlRelaxing · 11/01/2021 13:31

I like the sound Ray though. I think Rachel with Ray for short is nice.

Snog · 11/01/2021 13:31

I'm not assuming I can control how other people pronounce the name and won't be crying if people get it wrong.
I just think it's cool and modern.

Ah stop now would you be well Confused

AriesTheRam · 11/01/2021 13:32

Just no

ErrolTheDragon · 11/01/2021 13:32

@Snog

Since 1880, 632 girls were named Raymond in the USA. It is more usual as a boys name but it can be a girl's name too.
Pretty much anything can be a boy's or girl's name in the USA - eg the way some evidently choose a name by sticking a pin into a map of the U.K.

Someone really needs to sell them the 'three words' location app as a name generator.

ChnandlerBong · 11/01/2021 13:33

there is actually a feminised form which is raymonde (for french speakers) - but it's v old fashioned and hardly used.
