How about Cedric instead? Pronounced
Se-DREEK.

Winterpaw · 11/01/2021 13:37

@LunaNorth

At least everybody will love her.

I just think it’s cool and modern

Well drum that thought into little Raymond from the word go so she has a failsafe comeback for the bullies, the raised eyebrows and the sniggers she will come up against until the rest of the country catches up to your woke hip coolth.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 11/01/2021 13:37

But OP it's not you who'll be crying when people say it wrong or take the piss, it's your daughter. Honestly put yourself in future child's shoes and reconsider Confused

@ClaudiaWankleman

Pronounced Ray Monde

How else could this quite dated man’s name be pronounced?

its usually pronounced RAY-mund with emphasis on the first syllable

Rae short for Rachel?

Shakirasma · 11/01/2021 13:38

It's so try hard it hurts

giantangryrooster · 11/01/2021 13:39

Look up Johnny Cash 'a boy named Sue'. If you want to be different find something meaningful to make you shine. Not a curse for your dc.

ErrolTheDragon · 11/01/2021 13:40

cool and modern

'Cool'? Does anyone genuinely modern say 'cool' nowadays?

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 11/01/2021 13:40

I am hoping for Raymondella's sake this is a piss take

PhilCornwall1 · 11/01/2021 13:40

Lockdown must be getting to some people!

You could always go for Dave if you are feeling particularly adventurous.

TherapistInATabard · 11/01/2021 13:41

This is possibly my favourite ever baby name thread. Helpful, I know Grin

giantangryrooster · 11/01/2021 13:41

How about Fryingpanna?

WiseOwlRelaxing · 11/01/2021 13:43

I like Romy @Snog wdyt of that?

Romy Deliah (Romy Dee)

Do you like the sound of that?

MrsAvocet · 11/01/2021 13:43

Raymonda would be ok and has more or less the same sound. It's still unusual, but not unheard of - I would just assume the parents were ballet fans if I met a Raymonda.

Tonightstheteriyakichicken · 11/01/2021 13:44

Wink Brilliant.
YouokHun · 11/01/2021 13:45

My grandmother was called Daphne Raymonde. If you’re going down that route stick an e on the end because no one is going to pronounce it RayMONDE if you’ve spelt it Raymond and it will be a pain the arse for whoever is saddled with the name.

Colin has a nice ring to it, what about that?

FlamedToACrisp · 11/01/2021 13:45

@Snog

Very unpopular on mumsnet it seems! I might try on netmums for more opinions
OP: What do you think of the name Raymond for a girl?

Mumsnet: It sucks big-time.

OP: I'll ask someone else until I find someone who shares my opinion.

Mumsnet: No, honestly, it sucks!

BeautyGoesToBenidorm · 11/01/2021 13:46

I know a Lithuanian lady called Raimonda, but for the love of all that's holy, back away from the Raymond.

NellyJames · 11/01/2021 13:46

I actually know an 81yr old woman called, Rae with that spelling. I’m unsure if she’s just Rae or whether it’s short for something.

Not that you’re interested in that, are you OP? Hmm

KatherineJaneway · 11/01/2021 13:46

I just think it's cool and modern.

🤣🤣🤣

stairgates · 11/01/2021 13:47

This is lovely! Grin
strawberry2017 · 11/01/2021 13:48

I really hope this post is a joke.

Stinkerbells · 11/01/2021 13:49

I know two Rae’s. One is a Rachael and the other I think is just Rae. I wouldn’t choose Raymond for a girl though.

NellyJames · 11/01/2021 13:49

Colin has a nice ring to it, what about that?

Or Colindra or stick with traditional colander? WinkGrin
