The other day I read about a girl called Nerys and it was the first time I saw this name thought it was so beautiful.

I also worked with children and one was called Keziah, I just remember writing it down because I thought it was so pretty.

Has anyone else got any names that when they heard them for the first time they made a note to remember them?

I know a little girl named Ocean Skye.

habibihabibi · 05/12/2020 03:06

Mustafa
I am going to use it one day for a doggie as have had my children. It seems so regal.
Also love Suleiman, which means man of peace and corresponds with Solomon.
I love discovering Arabic names that are the root of names used in the West.

@habibihabibi

Taught two Mustafas. Both lovely boys.

Ruddyfedup · 05/12/2020 03:28

My DS went to school with a boy called TJ, a girl named Pretty Girl and my SIL knew a Diesel and her previous neighbour had a son after four daughters and named him Boy. Not very imaginative.

I knew a little girl called Zephyr; Zephy for short. Zephyr means a soft gentle breeze. I wasn't brave enough to give to my dd.

tobee · 05/12/2020 04:15

The only thing with Greek and Roman mythology names is they've often got dreadful stories saddled to them.

Clytemnestra anyone?

Or Thyestes?

stressfullday · 05/12/2020 08:28

I know siblings Ptolemy, Tabitha and Barney Confused

CatRamsey · 05/12/2020 08:56

I came across someone who had a common first name and their last name was Day. Then discovered their middle name was 'Zippadeedoodah'.

So they were FirstName Zippadeedoodah Day.

sashh · 05/12/2020 09:05

Oh not a baby name but my dentist is called Nice.

Zephyr means a soft gentle breeze Is either parent a biker? Or into 1950s cars?

Liljan0 · 05/12/2020 09:45

The most shocking name I ever heard was of a beautiful little girl called "cobweb"

Marcipex · 05/12/2020 10:04

@tobee I had a great aunt Clytemnestra!

I like Cobweb from MSND.

Cattenberg · 05/12/2020 10:13

I LOVE Oberon, but the King of the Fairies association would put me off, due to the teasing.

Sunbird24 · 05/12/2020 10:57

I know of a baby Horatio, and an Inigo (yup, like in Princess Bride)

MotherOfDragonite · 05/12/2020 11:09

I don't think of Inigo as being that unusual a name! (It could have been Fezik, right?!)

I forgot we met somebody with a baby called Orca some years ago! On the Z front, I also quite like Zenith.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 05/12/2020 12:24

Met a boy called Sherlock once - definitely got the sense that he felt utterly pissed off with burdened by the name. Since then I've always felt a bit scathing towards people who give their kids really wacky names. It seems a bit of a selfish act to me.

You’re right, that would definitely have been weird! I guess it’s just that I’ve never heard of one before, and there’s no Spanish element to the family at all so I can’t work out how they chose it 🤷🏻‍♀️
chaosisaladder · 05/12/2020 13:22

Teflon. His mum seemed to really like it

I know someone who has a Valentina and their surname is Italian and so beautiful. Just a really gorgeous name.

Teflon isn't a name that's going to stick around for long.

Brother Kipling kipper and quaid .

Sister Portland

mandarinpink · 05/12/2020 15:12

I know a Disney. Guess where she was conceived.

FeedMeSantiago · 05/12/2020 15:22

I went to school with a Jezebel - our religious studies teacher was very devout and was visibly shocked when taking our class register. I also went to school with an Anastasia, which I thought was a stunning name but she hated it and went by Annie instead.

I used to work with someone called Pebbles and my Mum used to work with a lady called Gypsy.

January.

I loved it but I’d never have the guts.
