The other day I read about a girl called Nerys and it was the first time I saw this name thought it was so beautiful.

I also worked with children and one was called Keziah, I just remember writing it down because I thought it was so pretty.

Has anyone else got any names that when they heard them for the first time they made a note to remember them?

@BeingATwatItsABingThing

Woman my mum knows named her daughter Tia. Nothing unusual about that except her name (the mother) was Maria.
I know someone called Tia-Maria Grin

I love all the old fashioned names.
Matilda

Nancy.
Frank.

@Fuckitsstillraining not who you asked but until this thread I didn't know how to say Gráinne and would have pronounced it "grain" or "grain-nee". I've no idea of Irish language or what to do with the a-acute so that's how it reads in English.

Oh just thought of Ragnar-Moon (he's a toddler).

I quite like Ragnar but the Moon part is a little too much for me

I met someone called Ilyas (older gentleman) but I thought it was the most lovely name.

I got talking to a woman on a bus and her little girl was called Keturah Hadassah. I loved it and my daughter's middle name is Keturah.
I know a little girl called Romoluwa and think that's beautiful too.

I met a woman who's name was an amalgamation of her parents names. I'm not going to post the real thing but along the lines of Garraine, Gary and Lorraine. She hated it and went by a nn.

Comfort and Blessing were two of my midwifes through 3 pregnancies and deliveries. The names suited them and fitted well with their job choices.

Used to work with a Nadege, pronounced nah-deh-je. Always thought that was really pretty.

There was a 2 year old Aristotle at soft play the other day.
I live in a very multicultural (non-UK) country and there are so many incredible names here. There is a nurse called Baby Anne at the clinic I take the kids to and the receptionist is called Smile.
I also work with a Shurooq (means sunrise in Arabic) which I think is pretty cool.

Saw a little boy on TV the other day named Luther.
Raised my eyebrows a bit at that.

I know a small boy called Alexander-Boris. He'll be about 3. Parents are Russian.

Former colleague named her daughter Tuesday - with no middle name. She must be late 30s now.

When my DD was born, there were rumours of a Pocahontas locally, but nobody could confirm it Wink

dementedma · 04/12/2020 14:27

Baine! Gorgeous baby, horrible name

VenusClapTrap · 04/12/2020 14:31

Nerina and Marjolaine are names of people I met years ago and I’ve thought they were beautiful ever since.

In my teens I fell hopelessly (and unrequitedly) in love with a bloke called Heathcliff. I’m sure the name was part of the attraction. Bumped into him years later, and dated him for a while. He didn’t live up to the romance of the name.

VenusClapTrap · 04/12/2020 14:33

A friend of a friend called her kid “Fox Rockett”. That was a you what? moment.

Sunnysideup999 · 04/12/2020 14:34

I met a baby boy called Orpheus once.
I rolled my eyes 🙄

ZooKeeper123 · 04/12/2020 14:40

StrawberriCream · 04/12/2020 14:45

Blossom in a baby girl born quite recently, unusual and quite pretty

EssentialHummus · 04/12/2020 14:55

I know a small boy called Alexander-Boris. He'll be about 3. Parents are Russian.

I have a lot to do with the UK Russian community and their kids' names do often stand out here - everything from Anastasia and Nadezhda to Myron, Eugene and Valentin. I had to talk DH out of calling our (hypothetical) son Boris.

I live in one of those bits of London and know siblings Hendrix and Bowie (siblings), a 5 year old Artemis, a Boudicca and a Rex.

GoldenNCurly · 04/12/2020 15:00

I know a Pebbles and a Blaize

doctorhamster · 04/12/2020 15:01

I know a woman who's named after the place she was born, spelled backwards. I won't give the actual name cos let's face it there'll only be one! Imagine if she was born in Bolton and was called Notlob.

MsMiaWallace · 04/12/2020 15:06

I know of a Fox too! A girl.

Went to school with a Loreli.

There's a Lucifer local to us.
He actually is a hell raiser. Complete ASBO child.
