The other day I read about a girl called Nerys and it was the first time I saw this name thought it was so beautiful.

I also worked with children and one was called Keziah, I just remember writing it down because I thought it was so pretty.

Has anyone else got any names that when they heard them for the first time they made a note to remember them?

@Karcheer

My favorite name is Priya. I think it’s suc a lovely name, love the sound of it.
I love this name too, I know a Kiwi girl called it (but no idea if it originates from NZ/is Maori)

I used to work with a lady named Ildiko.
I've never come across the name again.
My maternal GM was called Pretoria
(She was born during the Boer war, I think it may have been to commemorate a victory, it was a very jingoistic time.)

I used to work in a bank years ago, we had a lovely old lady as a customer, she must have been well in her 80s, she'd have been born just after the turn of the century I reckon. Her name was Sunbeam, I asked her once and it was her actual given name. It suited her so well.

@msssm
You like Gráinne.
It is one Irish name I particularly don't like.
Gránna, which sounds a bit like it. means ugly in Irish.

Adiel
Keturah

wozzerree · 05/12/2020 17:02

Silva, she was Portuguese

LongPauseNoAnswer · 05/12/2020 17:17

Ludo can also be short for Ludovico/Ludovica (Italian names).

I know a boy called Krystal and a girl called Cielo (sky in Spanish). Both for wholly different reasons!

sausagepastapot · 05/12/2020 17:23

Loveleena.

WhiskersPete · 05/12/2020 17:34

Former colleague named her daughter Tuesday - with no middle name. She must be late 30s now.

My old boss is called Tuesday and is around that age! Wonder if it's her.

Roselilly36 · 05/12/2020 17:43

I have known a Kesiah too, I think she had Kiwi/SA parents, I love her name, she was a lovely child too.

When shopping I heard a mum call her child Rupert, I have to say a lot of others shoppers were looking a little surprised & some were laughing 😢

rubydoobydoo · 05/12/2020 18:05

Ones I have recently come across, all teenagers- Tequila, Shardonnay (yes, with an S) and Serenity - which would be quite nice had the Serenity in question not been loud and obnoxious!

Starlitexpress · 05/12/2020 18:13

Elvis, unbelievably quite a few adults change their name by deed poll to this but a friend did meet a baby one!

corlan · 05/12/2020 18:16

Tarragon
Uranus

Londonsuffolkmummy · 05/12/2020 18:18

My sister is a Keziah

Pumpkinstace · 05/12/2020 18:21

Celyn.

It's the Welsh word for holly. I think it's beautiful

HeadPain · 05/12/2020 19:28

I'm sure there are others but the first name I remember thinking was really beautiful was Seraphina/Serafina.

And a male name I think is cool, and was surprised it's actually a name, although I could never use it, Wolf. I didn't expect to see an older male with it, Wolf Blitzer. German. "Blitzer has said he has frequently been asked about his name, which has been characterized as seemingly made for TV. He explained that his surname goes back for generations, and his first name, 'Wolf', is the same first name as that of his maternal grandfather." en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolf_Blitzer

I love saying the name Irenaeus. I remember an old man with that name. My mum had an uncle called Ignatius. Both good old man names.

weebarra · 05/12/2020 19:46

I know a Persephone, nn Sephy.

WhatsErFace2020 · 05/12/2020 20:52

finallychangedmyusername · 06/12/2020 00:22

I think I'll stick to those that took my breath away in a good way.😁

I've met a Merlin, Cosmo, Olympia, Zinnia, Zilla, Zia (I do love the letter Z!), Cassius, Everest, Rudolf, Edison, Caspian, Felicia, Nerissa, Keziah.

Luckymummy123 · 06/12/2020 01:46

Ambra and Ocean - both girls at my dd's school.

StopMakingATitOfUrselfNPissOff · 06/12/2020 09:02

I think Valentina is beautiful.

Also Dali is very cool.

Dalia is so pretty too but without being cutesy.

JustanotherTuesday · 06/12/2020 14:39

@Luckymummy123 My DS went to school with an Ambra and an Ocean. Ambra is an Italian name. There was also an Ebony which I quite like, except she had very pale skin and was blonde haired and blue eyed.

DefinitelyMaybeBaby · 06/12/2020 16:45

Another one here for Freya, I remember hearing it for the first time in my late teens and thinking it was totally stunning. Having a girl now 15+years later and a bit raging how popular it is now!

CornishTiger · 06/12/2020 16:48

My daughters name 🤫

I know a Kezia too and yes loved it.
