My husband wants to call the new baby after the cat ...

So finally getting DH to start at least thinking about baby names with a couple of weeks to go, and after crossing off the unappealing Cyrus/Aethelstan/Lancelot style names he likes, we finally have a short list.. one of which is the cat’s name Confused

Could people please critique, say which your favourite is, or suggest anything else we might like? We don’t really love any of them... we have a Kitty and a Rafe already and I’d like a name that ‘goes’.

Maxim
Ivo (but would you pronounce it EE-vo or eye-vo?)
Mungo (the cat Blush)
Jonty
Jago (one of ds’s middle name though)

Please help!

Mullikins · 29/04/2020 20:50

Omfg. Do not name your baby Mungo.

The baby will get called Mingo

What's wrong with mingo?

Either way, I would have thought they would be more likely to call him Jerry!!

Aposterhasnoname · 29/04/2020 20:53

Feck me, I never comment on name threads, but Mungo has GOT to be a joke.

He is joking, right?

Louise91417 · 29/04/2020 20:53

Herpesfreesince03 · 29/04/2020 20:55

No way this is real

browzingss · 29/04/2020 20:55

Weird having both a pet and child in the same household with the exact same uncommon name

Eye-vo would be my pronunciation

Personally I’m not a fan of your baby names. They genuinely sound like pet names and I’m wondering if by “new baby” you actually meant “fur baby” or not.

I had an uncommon name and changed it by deed poll at 20 - but I had stopped going by my “birth name” years before that. I genuinely hated being lumbered with a weird name, I would urge you to reconsider your choices for the sake of your child who will actually be stuck with it - it’s not pleasant

Grin

Ivo. Pronounced Eye-vo. My absolute favourite boy's name atm!

I also love Maxim. That is my favourite long form of Max.

So far similar tastes... but I really dislike your other options, sorry! Jago is OK, I guess, but Jonty is just a comically poncy name (a posh character in a comedy) and Mungo is, well, your cat's name.

Alwaystwomagpies · 29/04/2020 20:56

Henry
Hugo
Tobias
Seb
Guy
Dominic
Jasper
Dashiel

SimonJT · 29/04/2020 20:56

My cats a girl, the name I was going to use for a boy cat I used for my son (it’s also now my cats vets name!), I have a cat name as well to be fair.

Maxim is my favourite out of all of those, Mungo is my least favourite.

ilikebigbuttsandicannotlie · 29/04/2020 20:57

Surely he’s joking with the name Mungo? I was thinking the cat would be called Tom or something. Please tell him to not be ridiculous. As a pp said, poor Mungo would get called Mingo or something equally unpleasant.

NameChange30 · 29/04/2020 20:57

Tobias / Toby would go well with the others.

Puds11 · 29/04/2020 20:59

Mungo just reminds me of mung beans

InTheShadowOfTheMushroomCloud · 29/04/2020 21:00

I know an Ibe (ee- bee) ....he is lovely. And a scrumptious Howie!

LittlePesto · 29/04/2020 21:01

Magnus or Monty?

IVflytrap · 29/04/2020 21:02

Ivo is my first choice - love it. Eye-vo or Ee-vo both work, so go with whichever you prefer if you choose it.
Not Mungo Grin
Not Jago, even though I like it, because you've already used it, and I personally think it's nice for children to have names entirely their own within the immediate family.
Not that keen on Maxim or Jonty.

Carrie7469 · 29/04/2020 21:03

How about Felix, Sylvester, Tom, Garfield or TopCat?
