Hi fellow mums! I'm new to the site, not too sure how it all works LOL
I have always been a massive Oasis fan (sorry Blur fans) and they have influenced me and inspired me throughout my entire life, so when i found out i was having two little twin boys, i thought it would be amazing to name them after the Gallagher brothers! I thought it was a sweet idea, but people seem to frown and laugh thinking it's a joke!! Have to say it does hurt a bit. All the best, Catherine xx

Why on earth would you choose names to make people giggle. Unkind.

Skandiminsk · 01/05/2020 10:53

You worry to much! When we chose our children’s names, I didn’t want any name that ran in either of our families. People get obsessed with ‘calling siblings after a grandparent, mother, father, aunt or uncle etc. One day your kids will look back and realise that they have great names! Xx

Mumgonenuts2020 · 01/05/2020 13:10

The teenage girls Today when mums to be will probably use 1D for the reasoning for children’s names, Louis, Liam, Harry popular now Zayne and Niall May become popular in many years to come. The Next generation of Name choices 🤣🤣🤣

Snaketime · 01/05/2020 13:30

My sons first name and middle name are both from tv programmes. Just smile and nod at anyway making comments, you like the names, that is all that matters.

whynotgetalong · 01/05/2020 13:57

Dettol and Wipes

Grin lol

Orphlids · 01/05/2020 14:11

Ha ha, some people on this thread seem absolutely INCENSED! The names are perfectly normal, pleasant names. And they happen to be the names of two people who have brought the OP huge joy through their music. That doesn’t mean she loves her children any less than you love yours - it just means she loves Oasis more than you do. And lots of people saying what awful role models; she’s not asked the Gallagher brothers to be Godfathers. And the fact the Gallaghers don’t get on will have absolutely zero impact on the relationship between these twins, so that is irrelevant.

Carouselfish · 01/05/2020 14:38

Why not pick your favourite Oasis brother and use his, then pick another person from another band you love to inspire the other?

Nettie1964 · 01/05/2020 15:18

Call your children what you like for whatever reason you want. I don't personally like either name but that's just me. I called my daughter Edith after Edith Sedgwick. She was a drug addict beautiful but flawed. Everyone told us it was a granny name. Shes nearing 30 now and has only recently started meeting other Ediths under the age of 70. If it means something to you go for it.

MadameFireweed · 01/05/2020 16:22

Mercedes is a beautiful Spanish female name. It has been around very much longer than the car!

badg3r · 01/05/2020 20:55

Given that they now hate each other, I'm not sure it's the best idea for siblings...!

Housemum · 02/05/2020 08:58

Do you think early 20th century mumsnet would’ve been just like this? I know someone researching their family tree who came across twins just after WW1 called Pax Victorious and Victorious Pax! And there were Victorian names like Sorrow and I’m sure I’ve heard of other adjectives as names.

Housemum · 02/05/2020 09:01

Might be an urban myth but have seen things like “friendless” used as names. Saying that, I love African names like Blessing and Goodwill (they really don’t work on a white kid though - couldn’t imagine mine carrying it off). I wonder if they are a relic from Victorian domination that have become cultural?

Rainbow · 02/05/2020 11:33

They are normal names. I don't see anything wrong. I have heard worse. Chyna Playte, Robyn Cousins, Robin Hood. In my family it is our initials that have caused a laugh. When my DSis got married her initials became JCB, DN is LAB. My initials are ARSN. I am not going to marry Mr English 😂

Localocal · 04/05/2020 12:17

First of all, Liam and Noel Gallagher hate each others guts, don't they? That seems like a bad start to me.

Also, guidance suggests giving twins half-of-a-pair names may not be the best idea for them as they develop their individual identities.

If you said it to me I would think it was a joke, too. Sorry.

StudentMummy20 · 06/05/2020 21:34

😂😂😂😂😂

cvroberts1982 · 07/05/2020 08:23

Noel and Liam are normal names, article in NZ where two sisters are called Garnier and Nutrisse. www.stuff.co.nz/national/education/117865759/community-pain-as-tuturumuri-school-closes-after-97-years

Desireef · 07/05/2020 08:54

There's nothing wrong with Liam & Noel, they're nice names. Have you seen Elon Musk's new baby's name - it's like an algebra sum, really stupid & he drew ink marks on his forehead. Not caring how the child has to live with this through school & a young adult.

paradisefalls · 07/05/2020 15:04

I know twin girls called shimmer and sparkle Confused

MinorArcana · 07/05/2020 15:11

I see that the Mirror have picked up this thread...

Sugarhouse · 07/05/2020 17:08

They are two nice normal names it’s hardly they same as naming them after a car or something daft . Yes they will get oasis comments but anyone being mean about it is just nasty. Me and my husband love oasis my little ones middle name is After one of them and I’m very much someone who goes for traditional names.

Goldenmother · 07/05/2020 17:56

@HughGrantFan28 I absolutely love the names I too was a big oasis fan I'm currently 34 weeks expecting a little boy and have Liam in my list. I wouldn't let anyone make you feel judged there your children and you can names them what your chose I have a friend her twins are Reggie and Ronnie and I think that's fine too.

mathanxiety · 07/05/2020 23:35

I never liked Oasis but Liam and Noel are really nice names and they'll be nice (and not matchy) long after the band is ancient history.

Sorry people have been nasty, OP.

mathanxiety · 07/05/2020 23:38

Find some strong, characterful, names for your twins.
How about Owen and Oliver? Or Finn and Freddie?

Matchy names - because they're twins?
How original.

Finn and Freddie are what you call a pair of goldfish. They're not 'strong' or 'characterful' together.

StudentMummy20 · 08/05/2020 10:00

@paradisefalls what?

SarahTTCx · 08/05/2020 10:08

Hmm, I like both Liam and Noel as names (personally wouldn't use them even separately but still think they're lovely). However, pairing them up for twins is always going to raise eyebrows when people first hear them, and because Oasis are so well known, they'll probably have that for their entire lives. However, their friends and family will forget it pretty quickly and they will become Noel and Liam in their own right!
