Judged for my kids' names?!

Hi fellow mums! I'm new to the site, not too sure how it all works LOL
I have always been a massive Oasis fan (sorry Blur fans) and they have influenced me and inspired me throughout my entire life, so when i found out i was having two little twin boys, i thought it would be amazing to name them after the Gallagher brothers! I thought it was a sweet idea, but people seem to frown and laugh thinking it's a joke!! Have to say it does hurt a bit. All the best, Catherine xx

We all get judged on our children's names. You have to stand by your choices and ignore comments anyway...

Pigeonpresent · 29/04/2020 18:55

Some might say “Don’t look back in anger”. Whatever, stop crying your heart out and roll with it. D’you know what I mean?

Mischance · 29/04/2020 18:56

Not a problem - both normal nice names. Just do it!

Lots of people simply will not make the connection as they are a bit old hat now - sorry! Grin

WhereYouLeftIt · 29/04/2020 18:57

The best thing you can do about the names you choose for you children is - how will they feel about it when they're seven, fourteen, twenty one? Could the name I choose to give them become something they find tiresome and embarrassing?

DGRossetti · 29/04/2020 18:57

Surely, if you want to pay tribute to Oasis, John and Paul would be better names ?

(ducks) ...

Greggers2017 · 29/04/2020 19:00

I love love love them! I'm with you! My 10 month old is Lyla, you'll know why.
If she was a boy she would have been Noel. We're saving it. We always said twins would be liam and Noel.

We love Britpop and our favourite is oasis!

We also have a cocker spaniel called Jarvis 🙈

FabulouslyFab · 29/04/2020 19:01

Agree with @Mischance. They’re great boys names which many won’t recognise or be rude enough to to comment on.

Greggers2017 · 29/04/2020 19:01

OP do not listen to people about saying it's childish, it is not. It's just the same as giving them a family name. It means something to you.
Oliver and Owen are awful by the way 🤮

Hollyhobbi · 29/04/2020 19:07

Nothing wrong with those names and everyone will know how to spell and pronounce them which is half the the battle!

heartsonacake · 29/04/2020 19:08

So you decided to name your kids after after men who repeatedly changed lyrics to be deliberately offensive, frequently started and got into violent fights and brawls, cheated on their partners (and Liam didn’t even meet his daughter for 20 years), drink and swear to excess, make casual nasty comments whenever they feel like it and have several ongoing feuds?

Yeah, great role models for your kids there Hmm

FudgeBrownie2019 · 29/04/2020 19:08

Oliver and Owen are awful by the way

What's the deal with the unkindness towards names? If you don't like a name don't use it. Don't publicly shout shit like this unless you want to come over a bit of a tool.

cherrybunx0 · 29/04/2020 19:09

wouldnt worry about this at all, my brother is named after them too and he was a 90s baby so very obvious lol. genuinely noone bats an eyelid and agree with other posters who are saying the age they are by time they get to school most wouldnt even pick up on it

Greggers2017 · 29/04/2020 19:09

@FudgeBrownie2019 I didn't mean as individual names. I meant together.

cherrybunx0 · 29/04/2020 19:10

@heartsonacake my brother is called after them too, doesnt mean hes a yob lol have a day off

SecondaryBurnzzz · 29/04/2020 19:20

The issue for me would be that the the bros Gallagher seem to hate each other...

Josette77 · 29/04/2020 19:21

I think you need to grow thicker skin and accept that people will find it funny.

Greggers2017 · 29/04/2020 19:21

I don't think people grow up to be like people with the same names as them 🙄
2 of my dads brothers are jimmy and Marshall they are not prolific pedophiles or rappers 🤦🏼‍♀️

Helena79 · 29/04/2020 19:27

Not as bad as my dad’s friend, who named his daughters Mercedes and Porsche. Their actual first names!! So ridiculous 😂

EmbarrassingMama · 29/04/2020 19:29

Two brothers who absolutely hate each other?

lockdownstress · 29/04/2020 19:30

The thing is, naming your kids isn't some funny game to show how clever you are. How old are they? Could you change one if th me names?

MagnoliaJustice · 29/04/2020 19:31

If you'd called them Oasis and Gallagher then I'd be worried. But Liam and Noel are perfectly nice names. Their namesakes are a pair of bellends though and terrible role models.

Billben · 29/04/2020 19:31

I wouldn’t be judgey about the names but this just makes my eyes roll

and they have influenced me and inspired me throughout my entire life

BlueGreenYellowRed · 29/04/2020 19:43

They're lovely names.

I know a Titanic fan who named their twins Jack and Rose

zonkin · 29/04/2020 19:49

Is this a bit like Terry in Brooklyn 99 calling his twins daughters Cagney and Lacey? In which case......HmmHmm
