Hi fellow mums! I'm new to the site, not too sure how it all works LOL
I have always been a massive Oasis fan (sorry Blur fans) and they have influenced me and inspired me throughout my entire life, so when i found out i was having two little twin boys, i thought it would be amazing to name them after the Gallagher brothers! I thought it was a sweet idea, but people seem to frown and laugh thinking it's a joke!! Have to say it does hurt a bit. All the best, Catherine xx

I wanted to name my twin boys Matt and Luke, but once DH twigged he was having none of it. Spoilsport

I don't think of Bros here initially, I thought of Matt Lucas!

hellosunshine5 · 29/04/2020 18:13

Don’t worry about it OP! My Dad (also a big Oasis fan) proudly called my little half-brother Liam...and his surname is Gallagher. Grin

Lordfrontpaw · 29/04/2020 18:13

A friend had twin brothers called John and Paul - his mum told the priest it was after the Pope (she was actually a Beatles fan).

Weallhavevalidopinions · 29/04/2020 18:15

Mark and Spencer

Pixielou16 · 29/04/2020 18:16

Can't believe how rude some people are on here. They are both nice, normal names in their own right. You'd think you'd named them Dettol and Wipes from the way some people on this post are carrying on! Names are totally subjective, and what matters is that you and your OH like them. Once they are older, the connection won't be spotted as quickly and I think it's nice to know they have a little story behind their name.

A friend had twin boys, & wanted 2 names that went together.

She was not impressed with my suggestion of Castor & Pollux.

stickman12 · 29/04/2020 18:19

I know twin boys called rain and bow

whatshebininagain · 29/04/2020 18:23

I'm surprised at the negativity here. I'm not an Oasis fan myself but Liam and Noel are perfectly fine, "normal" names. By the time they are 10 or so no-one will care about the Gallaghers.

At least you haven't called them something "yooneek" like Anubis or Krakatoa!

IsAnybodyListening · 29/04/2020 18:24

I know siblings called Rachael, Ross and Joey, so....

SnickettyLemon · 29/04/2020 18:24

I have no problems with your choice of names. However you might wish to reconsider giving your name (I assume Catherine is real) when you are giving away identifying info like your children's name. Most people want to remain anonymous on here.

CambsAlways · 29/04/2020 18:26

Mat and alan

thejollygargler · 29/04/2020 18:26

Is your surname Gallagher OP?

Sexnotgender · 29/04/2020 18:27

My dogs are called Sam and Ella.

CambsAlways · 29/04/2020 18:27

At the end of the day it’s your choice isn’t it, but I would expect to have people laugh or even question the names,it’s what people do

ReluctantHillCrester · 29/04/2020 18:28

I think the weirdest thing about this is you still believing you are either an Oasis fan or a Blur fan and somehow cannot be both.

But yes, I would think it was weird that you named your twins after Oasis but each to their own.

I have never been that influenced by a band, or character from a book or movie anywhere near enough to name a child after them.

PineappleDanish · 29/04/2020 18:28

Liam is fine.
Noel is fine.

Together, not fine. It's really tacky to name your kids in this way, imho.

TheAgeofAnxiety · 29/04/2020 18:30

I used to be an Oasis fan in my teen age. When I moved to the UK for my first job, I went to live in a shared flat whose landlord was Liam. On paperwork I discovered he was a Gallagher. I still remember the disappointment when I met him in person.

CountFosco · 29/04/2020 18:31

I know someone who has named their children after Doctor Who companions. They avoided choices like River Song and Nardole and went for a combination like Clara and Ryan so most people don't realise.

zafferana · 29/04/2020 18:35

Liam and Noel are perfectly fine names, but the Gallagher brothers are a couple of absolute twats (particularly Liam).

Hippee · 29/04/2020 18:40

I met someone who had Jamie and Oliver - not intentionally.

Coffeecak3 · 29/04/2020 18:45

@TerribleCustomerCervix Mercedes the car was actually named after the automobile entrepreneur's daughter.

Phoebesgift · 29/04/2020 18:48

I like both names individually but wouldn't use them for twins. Oasis are already has beens. They are now more famous for being aggressive, argumentative pricks

Elmo230885 · 29/04/2020 18:49

I also know Ronnie and Reggie twins. I will admit I did a Hmm when she told me and I'd probably do the same at Liam and Noel. It was a bit of a reflex.

BlackSwan · 29/04/2020 18:54

Matt & Luke. Showing my age there...

OhTheRoses · 29/04/2020 18:55

I wouldn't make the connection but my children sparkle! Named years before the books.
