Iv seen it spelt a few ways on baby name websites, which is best? 😁

OP posts:

'which is best?'

err OP which part of the word 'opinion' are you having trouble with? Because asking 'which is best' is pretty much the definition of asking for people's opinions.

Anyway - attitude notwithstanding - you certainly got opinions, which is probably better than having one's post completely ignored, no?

I work in a school and if I heard it I would assume it was spelt Coby.

EvilDog · 15/05/2019 16:00

Coby is the nicer spelling from your list.

Fwiw I don’t think it’s a ’chavvy’ name at all. The only child called Koby I know has surgeons for parents and they live in a nice area in the Cotswolds!

SilverySurfer · 15/05/2019 19:39

KKKK1
@SilverySurfer didnt ask for opinions read the original post.

I did read your OP and subsequent posts. You asked for people to choose, which is the same as asking for their opinion.

My choice is I still don't like any of them and still like Hughie.

HTH

SazCat · 15/05/2019 19:58

Kobi makes me think of the friendly caretaker bloke in Apple Tree House Smile

AllStar14 · 15/05/2019 21:10

I have a Coby, I love the name. So many arseholes on mumsnet.

Dljlr · 15/05/2019 21:13

I know a Khobi. Always reminded me of beef tbh.

Dljlr · 15/05/2019 21:15

I'm so knackered I didn't even realise this is the second time I've commented on this same thread. Sorry op.

I gave my son a name everyone on MN hated 8 years ago when I floated it, but keep seeing it suggested now. Funny how fashions change.

mothertobe789 · 15/05/2019 21:48

Wow what a lot of stuck up nasty comments on here. Why would you ever judge a child on thier name anyway!?
Op, for what it's worth, I prefer the spelling Cobey, I think it's a lovely name.I hope you've not been put off by these comments. Sorry x

Divgirl2 · 15/05/2019 21:55

I prefer it spelt Kobe, have you considered Jacobi?

This sounds like a Glaswegian term for a jacuzzi jobby.

nespressowoo · 15/05/2019 22:01

Terrible name. Don't do it.

Proseccofuelled · 15/05/2019 23:08

I do think the name sounds like the sort of name someone unemployed would use but in a lot of countries names don’t aren’t linked to social class in the way they are here - I’d love for that to change here. Maybe all the variety of names currently in fashion will help to break that system down?

Anyway I think people need to have some empathy with this (probably?) pregnant lady - she’s come on here with a name she loves & had 5,000 people telling her how awful they think it is. It is an opinion forum so it’s expected that people give opinions, but it’s hardly surprising that 5,000 versions of the same opinion might make the recipient feel a bit piled on & defensive ??!!

Davespecifico · 15/05/2019 23:10

I know of a Coby and a Cobi. I wouldn’t choose it with any spelling.

DrFoxtrot · 15/05/2019 23:22

Haven't RTFT but I agree with your DH - the best spelling of Coby/ Kobe is H-U-G-H-I-E.

Cbeebiesrehab · 15/05/2019 23:23

There is a very ‘naiccee’ lady who I see in the park most weeks (yes, I spend a lot of time in the park) she dresses immaculately and looks like an ‘Instamummy’ her son is called Coby Mason. When you put a name in a different context you look at it with fresh eyes. I actually quite like it now I’ve seen it used on a beautiful little blonde boy with a very attractive, middle class mother. Maybe that makes me shallow? Or maybe it’s just a reflection on society today. I guess what I’m trying to say is you may have a preconception of a name but it only takes one child/parent to change your mind. Go with Coby if you love it OP (with the Coby spelling)

Astronica · 16/05/2019 07:59

Coby spelling is best.

MarthasGinYard · 16/05/2019 08:03

Not Kobe

American raw meat chain

DonkeyHohtay · 16/05/2019 08:23

None.

Cody at a real push but those three are real shockers, sorry OP.

daisypond · 16/05/2019 08:40

Coby is best. But I also know a Kobe and a Kobi - both are common names from some African cultures. There’s one in the CBeebies series Apple Tree House.

ArtisanPopcorn · 16/05/2019 19:41

I'm not sure I would usually judge an immaculately dressed insta-mummy type with a kid called Coby Mason as middle class. I say that as a working class person.

SnowyAlpsandPeaks · 16/05/2019 21:14

Anyway except Kobe, because I just think beef when I hear the name anyway. Kobe would cement that!

Saharasunset · 18/05/2019 16:50

I love the name Kobe

My preference of spellings are:

Kobe
Coby
Cobie

namechan · 19/05/2019 13:48

I'd go for Kobi/Kobie

Proseccofuelled · 19/05/2019 21:44

Mason has as much stereotypical associations as Coby so I’m not convinced that example helps
