I quite like Bob Grin Robin / Robert Grin

Thisismyusernamefornow · 14/05/2019 22:22

Coby

PQ77 · 14/05/2019 22:23

KKKK1 my son's name is too identifying (I've never met another child with the name in the last 10 years) Grin

BentBaastard · 14/05/2019 22:25

James

Coby is the least worst spelling.

FenellaMaxwell · 14/05/2019 22:27

None are good but Coby is the least bad. It’s worth considering that you’re going to have to deal with people not liking it IRL with better grace than you have on here if you plan to use it.

And yes, Hughie and Bob are both better.

Proseccofuelled · 14/05/2019 22:30

You could do Coby & put something longer on the birth certificate to give them options. Anything would work really:
Conrad Albie etc

Actually I love the name Albie or maybe Herbie is the mix of both of your favourites ?

I haven’t really kept up with which spelling came out as no 1 for Coby - really hoping you got something useful out of the thread

Sophronia · 14/05/2019 22:50

Coby

GoFiguire · 14/05/2019 22:59

Codeine

Rattleandhum · 14/05/2019 23:04

None of them, awful name.

BentBaastard · 14/05/2019 23:23

🤣🤣🤣
Mumsnet is harsh.

MrsFoxPlus4 · 15/05/2019 01:33

Don’t let the people here put you off. I let them when it came to naming my twins and hate her name. We never use it.

Strugglingtodomybest · 15/05/2019 01:45

It’s really not a name I can see an adult with in a profession job.

Both the Cobys I know are Professors in the USA. Both are in their 50s/60s so I think I have a completely different view on this name to most so far.

dreichuplands · 15/05/2019 01:51

Coby is I think the best spelling
I prefer Hughie but Coby spelt various ways is a name in the USA.

KKKK1 · 15/05/2019 07:31

DH & I found another name we like last night so will use that for the next week and see if it sticks! Will not be putting it on here though! Some people were not brought up right unfortunately, being so horrible behind a screen must make people feel empowered in RL or something...

I prefer it spelt Kobe, have you considered Jacobi?

taylorlynn · 15/05/2019 09:20

I like Coby! Ignore the snobs on here would love to know what they have all called their children 🤣

TacoLover · 15/05/2019 10:51

It's not bitchy to say you don't like a name. In the end it's your child who will have to suffer from people judging his name, not you🤷🏾‍♀️

puma84 · 15/05/2019 11:14

Like I said previously I like Coby I know a couple and it's a nice name.i don't get the hate at all.

Ps my sons name is hughie Wink

FizzyGreenWater · 15/05/2019 11:53

Straight talking doesn't equate to not brought up right really!

Straight talking is exactly what the baby name bit is for. You get people saying what they absolutely would not in real life, where you would get oooh Cobey, how lovely and then a hidden eye roll.

You need the straight talking, if you want to know what people really think of a name. Then you get to decide whether to listen or not!

Personally I don't think Coby is a million miles from something like Otis, which is popular and trendy and a-ok on here. But clearly folk feel differently. It's useful to know that!

Good luck

EdtheBear · 15/05/2019 13:40

I agree that you need straight talking on baby names.
It's a label that you are putting on a child from pram to nursing home. It needs to suit all situations.
For what it's worth I think Coby works ok for a child but seems very soft for an adult man.

SilverySurfer · 15/05/2019 13:44

Coby etc - none - not that you want to hear that but I like Hughie.

If you come on here asking for opinions you will get them. If you don't want to know, don't ask or get stroppy with people.

Bloomburger · 15/05/2019 15:29

Hughie means 🤮 doesn't it?

Bloomburger · 15/05/2019 15:31

I'd tell a friend it was hideous to their face if they asked me my opinion. I think if you're brought up right you can be honest tactfully rather than hide behind lies if you're not confident enough to say it straight.

KKKK1 · 15/05/2019 15:48

@SilverySurfer didnt ask for opinions read the original post.
