Clearly a much more liked/popular name in America

Maybe I am stuck up, who knows

But I'm genuinely curious as to why you want your baby saddled with a name that has so many negative connotations?

MyKingdomForBrie · 14/05/2019 20:44

Dear god not a tracksuit

HappyDinosaur · 14/05/2019 20:44

Well the beef is spelt Kobe.

Cottonwoolmouth · 14/05/2019 20:47

Lots of Codi & Cobys on the estate I used to teach on.

It’s really not a name I can see an adult with in a profession job.

I really do wish people would consider what the name brings to the child when they have turned in to an adult.

Coby sounds like a dogs name.

Hughes is actually ok

TheWaiting · 14/05/2019 20:47

Hughie is a fabulous name! I’m not keen on Coby but that’s how I’d spell it.

This is Mumsnet, thou shalt not use a K name.
@EdWinchester, many years ago on MN, the prevailing view was that J names were tacky. As the mother of a Jonathon (Jonny) and a Katherine (Kitty) I’m now just waiting on DD2’s initial to win MN bingo.

KKKK1 · 14/05/2019 20:50

@Fluggers sorry can you point me in the direction of a news article or a website to back up your information? Because were I live the name is not linked to a thug that repeatedly ends up in his local paper !? Or are you just going of something YOU heard or YOU saw? Surely there cant be 50-100 Coby's that you know of running round the UK causing havoc for you to associate a name with such 'negative' thoughts...

OP posts:
ubiquitousness · 14/05/2019 20:50

I don’t like any of them - seem quite “chavvy” - but obviously if you love them go for it.

Kobey: the most made up looking, the most “chavvy”
Cobey: second most made up looking
Coby: the nicest ! Doesn’t come up as a made up name when you type it (doesn’t have a read scribble under iyswim)

IgnoranceIsStrength · 14/05/2019 20:50

You don't want people's opinions....yet you post on a baby name thread?! They just don't sound nice, almost a medical noise.

superram · 14/05/2019 20:50

Kobe as it’s an actual name, a place but the most obvious spelling. What about John?

KKKK1 · 14/05/2019 20:52

@IgnoranceIsStrength clearly didn't read the OP it ask's for a spelling not an opinion, your username is appropriate though, total ignorance.

Op I think it’s because it gives off the same vibe as, Kai or Cai which cause MNetters to convulse. Wink

Sweetooth92 · 14/05/2019 20:53

I always thought it was Kobe, but would go Cobi off your list.

Also Jesus wept what did the OP do to you guys? Some seriously unnecessary nastiness. Arseholes. Really no need

KKKK1 · 14/05/2019 20:56

I guess its my fault for not associating children's names with council estates and only judging them from their behaviour or how they treat my DC 🤷🏻‍♀️

Maybe ill call him Archie😉👑

Ask the poster if she knows how the top thug spells his name & go with that

MrsFoxPlus4 · 14/05/2019 20:58

Who*

Greyworm · 14/05/2019 20:59

Oh i was going to choose Coby as my first borns name. It's a surfy name where I live. Didn't go with it as it happens. Op I'm going against the grain and Im saying I like it but I'm in the minority! All my friends and family thought Coby would have been an awful choice too. I liked it though. Blush

KKKK1 · 14/05/2019 20:59

@MrsFoxPlus4 If I was going to do that then id name him after my DH 🤔

@Greyworm what did you go with? We might have the same taste 🤑

OP posts:
Greyworm · 14/05/2019 21:01

Jacob. I thought Coby would be a good nickname. Didn't stick though!!

PetraRabbit · 14/05/2019 21:02

Kobe is the only spelling that seems elegant. It's African but also I think a Japanese city. The spellings you suggested are all very very American, not a style I'm a fan of.

KKKK1 · 14/05/2019 21:02

@Greyworm I do like Jacob! But doesn't go with our surname 🤧
