Do all Rebecca's become Bex/Becs as adults?

DH suggested it for DC4, but the idea of Bex seriously puts me off! Yet it's a beautiful name!

I know a Becca.

greendale17 · 10/08/2018 07:46

They become Becky. Never heard one referred to as Bex

INeedNewShoes · 10/08/2018 07:46

I know a Becky and a Becca, neither of whom have ever been called Bex.

I don't think I've ever met someone who used the full 'Rebecca'.

Godotsarrived · 10/08/2018 07:47

Bex or Becca I find. Rebecca is a lovely name though.

Thistles24 · 10/08/2018 07:49

I know a couple that have managed to go through life as Rebecca!

Nuffaluff · 10/08/2018 07:49

I know a Bex. She is the coolest person I know.
I also know a Rebecca. She’s very serious.
Most Rebeccas end up as Beckys. That’s the beauty of long names that can be shortened. You end up with a nickname that suits you.

IVEgotthePOWER · 10/08/2018 07:49

Bex/Becca/Becky

I do know a 6 year old Rebecca who so far has only ever been Rebecca

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 10/08/2018 07:50

The ones I know are Bec or Becky.

Bristolgal · 10/08/2018 07:50

Oh interesting! I have known four Bex/Becs in my life!! And one Becca at school. I really don't mind Becky but have never met an adult one and presumed it's because the 'ee' sound on the end makes it sound little girl like!

I know a couple of Beccas, a Becky, a Bex and Rebecca.

IggyAce · 10/08/2018 07:51

I’m a Rebecca and have always used Rebecca my mum hated Becky. One aunt calls me Bex by text/email and my 2 best friends call me Bec or Becca but to everyone else I’m Rebecca.

BokenWings · 10/08/2018 07:51

I know a Rebecca who is Rebecca. Never heard her being called a shortened version

Glowbug59 · 10/08/2018 07:52

Was a Becca at school, Bex or Rebecca now... or Rachael, get called Rachael a lot!

Trampire · 10/08/2018 07:52

I know a Bex and and Becky. I don't know anyway just Rebeccas.

Cherubfish · 10/08/2018 07:52

I know one Becky, one Bex and one Rebecca!

Joinourclub · 10/08/2018 07:53

I know 2 Beckys and 2 Bex. All aged between 35-45.

Wemadeit · 10/08/2018 07:53

The ones I know are all Becky. Never heard of a Bex.

raspberrysplit · 10/08/2018 07:55

To add to the possible nn’s already mentioned there’s also Rebeck and Reba.

ItsMutinyOnTheBunty · 10/08/2018 07:55

I am Rebecca - it got changed to Becky or Bex at school, don’t love Becky to be honest, I prefer Bex. However at work, I insist on Rebecca (and I do correct people who try to shorten it!). I like using my ‘Sunday name’. I work in healthcare and patients will often say it’s a lovely name Smile Plus if you say Becky to the older generations, they think you’re saying ‘Betty’ and I’m definitely not Betty! Grin

NoNoCharlieRascal · 10/08/2018 07:57

I'm not a Rebecca, but have a similar name. I think it depends on the child/parents. I don't like the shortened version of my name so have always corrected people when they have tried to use it.

FaithEverPresent · 10/08/2018 08:00

Cherubfish I’m in that age bracket! I’m in a school parent’s group and there’s 3 of us about the same age, two call themselves Becky so I’m known as ‘the one who is Rebecca’ because I do prefer my full name.

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 10/08/2018 08:05

I can think of 5 I know. 3 are Becca, the other 2 get various shortenings and aren’t one particular thing.
I have a name that gets shortened a lot. I really dislike the shortening but regardless a few people call me it all the time. When you have a name like that people will tend to shorten it if they want really and tour dd might end up choosing to use a shortened version you don’t like as well.

LucyFox · 10/08/2018 08:27

I know: Becky, Becca, Beck & Rebs

The obvious nn is Becky or Becca

Jennyvenice · 10/08/2018 08:51

I know a Becca, a Becky, a Bex and a Rebba (though that's more of a family nickname)

JurassicGirl · 10/08/2018 08:56

I know 1 adult (40) who goes by Becky & 1 child (9) who goes by Becks.
