Do all Rebecca's become Bex/Becs as adults?

DH suggested it for DC4, but the idea of Bex seriously puts me off! Yet it's a beautiful name!

Of the three Rebeccas I know, one is always Rebecca and the other two are Becca.

Rebecca36 · 10/08/2018 22:47

I love the name Rebecca and there's nothing wrong with Becky or Bex, they are friendly nicknames, she will still have the name of Rebecca.

GoJohnnyGoGoGoGo · 10/08/2018 22:47

I know a Becki, Becky, Becca, Bex, Bekah and a Rebecca

ItsASunnyDay · 10/08/2018 22:50

I'm a Rebecca. I'm mostly known as Becky, sometimes Bex. Sometimes just B!

TellerTuesday4EVA · 10/08/2018 22:56

One I know seems to like being referred to as Rebe or Bexster, god awful but hey it's her choice.

The other is Rebekah, has always been Rebekah & no shortening with be stood for.

Acidrain · 10/08/2018 23:00

I'm a Rebecca to anyone I've met at age 18+, so work, friends and DP and his family. As that's what I introduced myself as.
I'm Bex/Becky to close friends and family as that's what as a child I got called and even if I mention that my names Rebecca, they just forget and revert to what they've always known.

y0rkier0se · 10/08/2018 23:01

My friend detests Rebecca and is known as Reb

AlexaShutUp · 10/08/2018 23:06

It's a lovely name. Shortened names are not inevitable but ultimately, it's for the owner of the name to choose, not their parents!

Bubblysqueak · 10/08/2018 23:07

I know a Becca, bex and becci. Rarely known as Rebecca.

SixFeetUnder · 10/08/2018 23:20

Only my husband calls me Becca, everyone else has always called me Rebecca. I really hate Becky so have always nipped that in the bud. If you hate a nickname though then make your peace with it or don't use the name as chances are your child may like that version when they're older and nothing worse than a mum telling her adult children what their friends may call them (voice of experience!)

letmepeeinpeace · 10/08/2018 23:21

I'm a Rebecca (or Bex/Becky). People constantly call me Rachel though!!

PatchworkElmer · 11/08/2018 08:41

letme I have the same problem with being called Rachel!

I’m a Rebecca and I love my name. Some of my friends at high school called me Bex, but I use Rebecca now.

Yakadee · 11/08/2018 09:06

Haha that's so funny, my sister's are called Rachael and Rebecca x

headinhands · 11/08/2018 09:10

Know one Becky and one Becca. Prefer Becca. Becky sounds twee.

LlamaPyjamas · 11/08/2018 09:13

My friend goes by Reba. Like the singer Reba McEntire.

RuthW · 11/08/2018 09:18

I think it depends on the decade they are born and what is fashionable at the time. I'm 50 and all Rebeccas around at the time are either Rebecca or Beckie. All the Rebeccas around my daughter's age (21) are Becca with the occassional Bex.

PurpleMoodyRazu · 11/08/2018 09:20

I know one Rebecca, we get away with calling her Bec, Becca, Becky because we were childhood friends, to everyone else it's Rebecca.

LinoleumBlownapart · 11/08/2018 09:28

I know 2 Beckys, 1 Bex, 1 Becca and 1 who is always Rebecca, she's firm about that.

RachelTeeth · 11/08/2018 19:19

Do the Rebeccas get called Ree beccah, or more like Ruh beccah? Ree sounds so wrong.

daisypond · 11/08/2018 19:48

I know a Reba (short for Rebecca). Rebecca is a lovely name.

RedDwarves · 12/08/2018 06:48

All of the Rebeccas I know are "Bec". Not Becks/Bex, Becca or Becky.

I'm in Australia, if that makes a difference.

HereBirdies · 12/08/2018 06:59

I know a Becca, Beckie, Becky, Rebecca and a Bex!

Yogagirl123 · 12/08/2018 07:04

I know many Rebecca’s and not one is known by Rebecca.

chronicallyawesome · 12/08/2018 07:24

I know a couple that are Rebekah to family or at work but shortened elsewhere, and a mixture of Reb, Becky, Becca and Bex. I still like it though - even the most unshortenable of names can end up with a nickname at school so if you love it, go for it.

MaryShelley1818 · 12/08/2018 07:32

I know 4! Only one is Becks and the other 3 are all just Rebecca (adults).
