Do all Rebecca's become Bex/Becs as adults?

DH suggested it for DC4, but the idea of Bex seriously puts me off! Yet it's a beautiful name!

My niece is Rebecca, she’s Bec to close friends/family but Rebecca at work/ on first introduction. And ‘la’ to me and my other sister but that’s a pet name from her childhood.

I know a few adult Rebeccas who all go by Becky or Becca.

I’ve taught 3 (Primary) age ones who, thus far, are always Rebecca and no diminutive.

youngestisapsycho · 10/08/2018 14:59

I’m a Rebecca. Sometimes Becca, rarely. Never Becky.... I hate it and if someone calls me it I ask them not to! 😁

Blankscreen · 10/08/2018 15:01

I have a sister called Rebecca. My mum and dad call her Rebecca.

She calls her friends call Becky and we call her Becca.

mrscee · 10/08/2018 15:11

I'm a Becky although family call me Bec and some folk call me Bex

mrscee · 10/08/2018 15:12

Someone at work calls me Rebecky Grin

Yakadee · 10/08/2018 15:43

My sister is Rebecca but we call her Becky or Bex x

HesMyLobster · 10/08/2018 16:53

I have a 16 year old Rebecca.
The only nickname she's ever had is that Friends and family call her Boo.
To everyone else she is Rebecca. She has never been Becca, Bex or Becky.

YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 10/08/2018 17:07

Only my mum calls me Rebecca. Grin

Rjd13 · 10/08/2018 18:31

I’m a Rebecca and would love to know how people have prevented the ‘Becky’ nn from happening. I’m known as Becky but don’t like the name at all! That said I’m 32 and have never thought that ‘Becky’ has sounded too young.

Love my full name though - if you can get everyone in the habit Smile

BaronessBomburst · 10/08/2018 18:38

The Rebecca in my family has always been known as Rebecca, never Becky.

Wellshit · 10/08/2018 18:42

I'm a Bex! I hate Rebecca. Used to get Becky but Bex has stuck since about 12 years old.

bourbonbiccy · 10/08/2018 18:47

My best mate is bex to me or Rebecca if she's in trouble or I'm asking her to do something serious for me. Her sister calls her becca and acquaintances call her becky. So quite a mix I'm afraid. However I did work with a Rebecca, who insisted on being called Rebecca and would not answer to anything else so depends.

bridgetreilly · 10/08/2018 18:55

I know: Becca, Becky, Bek, Bex, Rebecca.

MikeUniformMike · 10/08/2018 18:56

Several Becky's, several Bex/Beck and one Becca.

CookPassBabtridge · 10/08/2018 18:57

I know lots of beckys/beccis and a beck, I don't know anyone who is called the full version. Which seems a shame as it's beautiful!

finallychangedmyusername · 10/08/2018 21:58

I know a Bex, Beck, Bec, Becky, Becky, Becca, Rebecca-sometimes-known-Bex, Bee and a Rebekah. Gorgeous name. Most (all?!) of the above are known by a nickname though to differentiate them from the many other Rebeccas of the 1980s. A Rebecca born today would probably not have that problem. It's my middle name and I think it's wonderful (I prefer it hugely to my first name and wish I'd opted to go by it in the past).

gallicgirl · 10/08/2018 22:01

I know an adult Rebecca. I can't imagine there's anyone who shortens it. If there is, they're probably buried 6 feet under.

ProseccoPoppy · 10/08/2018 22:03

I know two Rebecca, a Becky, a Becca, a Bex and a Boo (family nn, shortened from Becky-Boo, cute as a toddler but kind of stuck)

Waltzingmatilda65 · 10/08/2018 22:11

I know a Rebecca in her 40’s. But DD has one in her year who is referred to as Becca. I think it depends. Or do you like Becky if so people may not shorten that anymore.
I deliberately chose a name for DD that wouldn’t be shortened and a name for DS that could be and we loved the shortname and the full name. DS now prefers the shortened version of his name as do we and all his friends.

bruffin · 10/08/2018 22:15

Dd 20, is Becky, Becca and Bex

Givemeallyourcucumber · 10/08/2018 22:20

Reminds self to never read a thread about my own name again.

P s hate Rebecca, I always go by Becky. Lots of people then shorten that to Beck's but I don't like Beck's.

BretonStripe · 10/08/2018 22:26

I know a few adult ones:

Rebecca (never shortened)
Becca (never Rebecca - she hates it!)
Becky
Becki
Beckie
Bex

A couple of children too, but they're always Rebecca/Rebekah.

I like the name Smile

llangennith · 10/08/2018 22:30

Used to be Beccy or Becky but nowadays they seem to be Becks or Bex. Not as nice.

BonnieLass5 · 10/08/2018 22:32

Yes.

SwearyMaclairy · 10/08/2018 22:43

RJD13 I just correct people. E.g. on telephone: ‘Hi Becky’ ‘Rebecca, hello’. Maybe i’m just a bit scary though Grin
