Middle name for Oak

Just had my 20wk scan and confirmed we are having a boy. We had loads of girls names, but no boys names. My DP is Lithuanian, so would like Azuolas which translates into Oak. I really like Oak, but not Azuloas. Name would be Oak, not Oakley.

Can you think of a middle name to go with Oak?

I realise the name Oak is a little unusual and not to most peoples taste. Ideas please?

I like Oak Gabriel

pinkyredrose · 10/04/2018 12:46

Tree?

Gammeldragz · 10/04/2018 12:47

Maybe a more traditional (family?) name, so he can choose to use that when older if he doesn't like Oak?

twinone · 10/04/2018 12:49

Acorn?

doubtingmyself18 · 10/04/2018 12:51

Pheebo?

pullonyourjudgypants · 10/04/2018 12:51

Lee ? Wink

Congrats. I like Oak.

I’d choose a standard classic name like Matthew but it depends on your surname length

doodlejump1980 · 10/04/2018 12:51

Furnitureland?

SuburbanRhonda · 10/04/2018 12:52

Why don’t you want the Lithuanian name? At least it’s an actual name, unlike Oak.

worstwitch18 · 10/04/2018 12:53

Panel? Tree? Desk?

ILikeMyChickenFried · 10/04/2018 12:53

I would pick something very traditional.amd normal so he has another choice if he doesn't want to use Oak as he gets older

glitterbiscuits · 10/04/2018 12:54

Please don’t.

BlueChampagne · 10/04/2018 12:56

Oak Gabriel is very Thomas Hardy (Far from the Madding Crowd). Not that that's a bad thing, but just saying.

KarmaStar · 10/04/2018 12:58

I prefer Azuolas.I'd worry people would call him oik☺if he was called Oak.
Obviously your choice,a middle name would depend on your surname and initials to a point .
A name he can use of he dislikes the unusual Oak is a good idea,Darnell?

FizzyGreenWater · 10/04/2018 13:01

I would think again.

The thing is that in Lithuanian, Azuolas which happens to be an oak tree is ALSO a name. Just like here you could call a boy Rowan, which is a tree but also a name. Oak isn't. Oak is not the 'equivalent' of Azuolas in English.

So to be brutally honest with you it just sounds daft.

As well as not being a name, Oak is a very short word. So no short forms or nicknames. Just Oak.

Either use the Lithuanian name or find another name. Perhaps even Rowan, if your DH likes the idea of him having a nature name.

It really really does not sound good.

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 10/04/2018 13:03

Why not use the Lithuanian name? Sorry, but calling him Oak sounds like something from the Wicker Man.

fleshmarketclose · 10/04/2018 13:03

E. Doak?
Kay?
It's really awful I'd go with the Lithuanian name tbh.

Namechangemum100 · 10/04/2018 13:05

Lahoma?
Eedokee?
Kay?

Just some ways other kids will "play" with his name. I really wouldn't. I have a name people can play with and it really wears thin after you've heard the same "joke" for the thousandth time

Knittedfairies · 10/04/2018 13:13

Yeah, Gabriel Oak in ‘Far from the Madding Crowd’ Could you have Oak as a middle name?

LoveInTokyo · 10/04/2018 13:14

Another one in the “please think again” camp, I’m afraid. Confused

windchimesabotage · 10/04/2018 13:15

I think Oak is a lovely name and its not really that strange is it as a lot of other tress are used as name in the uk!
I dont understand why you are getting flack on here as its really not that 'out there' in terms of names at the moment.
If you love it and it has personal meaning to you I think you should use it.
Maybe use a more commonly used name as a middle name.
Francis
Michael
Gabriel
Nathanial
