Middle name for Oak

Just had my 20wk scan and confirmed we are having a boy. We had loads of girls names, but no boys names. My DP is Lithuanian, so would like Azuolas which translates into Oak. I really like Oak, but not Azuloas. Name would be Oak, not Oakley.

Can you think of a middle name to go with Oak?

I realise the name Oak is a little unusual and not to most peoples taste. Ideas please?

Oh gosh, please don't. Give that name to the dog or cat if you must, but please give a child a normal name!

bandito · 12/04/2018 13:51

Azuolas is nice and refers back to his heritage. Otherwise the poor kid's got years of people going "Uh?" and then calling him OK, or worse. Sorry.

KanyeWesticle · 12/04/2018 13:51

Or how about the Acer? Sounds very masculine, and it's cool and easy to spell - it's the genus of maple tree.

While not a direct translation, it means your son's initial is the same in both languages. Acer seems more of a name than "Oak" - because there are so many other "er" ending boys names.

bandito · 12/04/2018 13:55

What about Azuolas Oak Surname? Then he can choose - I am warming to Azuolas Oak, it's got a ring to it...

There are plenty Lithuanian names that also work fine in English

Tomas
Alexandrius
Andrius
Lucas
Dominikas
Matis
Darius

( hope I’ve spelled these correctly )

Please dont call your child Oak

KanyeWesticle · 12/04/2018 14:08

Acer or Ash are better british tree names.

LoveInTokyo · 12/04/2018 14:43

Thinking about it, I actually think Azuolas is an awesome name and you should just go with that.

Either that or a name which works well in both English and Lithuanian.

SickofThomasTheTank · 12/04/2018 14:58

Please tell me this is a wind up?! You cannot be seriously considering naming your child after a type of furniture? Please seriously reconsider

Shadowboy · 12/04/2018 15:03

I like it. It sounds strong. Oak Gabriel sounds nice. I’d go for a traditional middle name. On the birth certificate would it be the Lithuanian version?

BabyGardiner · 12/04/2018 15:03

Isn't 'Acer' a brand of laptop? Confused

heateallthebuns · 12/04/2018 15:26

Azuolas is a great name. Oak is awful. How do you pronounce Azuolas, if it's just like it's spelt then I don't understand your problem at all.

Poshsausage · 12/04/2018 15:31

Crying real tears here sorry ! So funny
Sorry no advice op

Theducksarenotmyfriends · 12/04/2018 15:37

Oak is a lovely name, I would definitely consider it if we ever had another! Not sure about middle name but I think nothing starting with a vowel as it wouldn't flow well. And something with two syllables or more. I love the name Elm too and wanted it for dd but we compromised on Elowen which means elm.

MudCity · 12/04/2018 15:38

Oak Alexander
Oak Sebastian
Oak Xavier
Oak Alistair
Oak Dominic
Oak Zachary

I quite like it.
Think middle name should be at least three syllables though to balance with a short first name.

TenGinBottles · 12/04/2018 15:42

Orric or Orrick is a name and means "old oak tree".

CapnCabinet · 12/04/2018 15:47

While Oak isn't to my taste, I don't see why so many people are ridiculing it.

The child may or may not be bullied for it, but then they may or may not be bullied if they were called Stephen or Archie. Perhaps we should focus on teaching our children to not bully instead. Lead by example Hmm

If you live in a fairly diverse area, OP, I can't imagine Oak would get as much as a raised eyebrow. If you're not, maybe it's time to break the hold of George and Harry and Jack.

MudCity · 12/04/2018 15:47

Oak Francis
Oak Harrison
Oak Anthony
Oak Dillon

Think a lot depends on your surname too and how many syllables it has.

Baubletrouble43 · 12/04/2018 15:50

Those of you banging on about the kid being bullied because of his name... that's not how bullying works. I have the most inoffensive mainstream boring common name and I was bullied. I knew plenty of kids with really out there names who weren't. There might be a little light hearted banter but any degree of confidence would see that off . Something you have to learn to deal with in life. Op I like Oak. Choose it if you want to.

WhollyFather · 12/04/2018 15:58

I'd urge reconsideration. The father is Lithuanian but has chosen to live in the UK, where I imagine the lad will grow up. I can understand you wanting a name with conections to the father's heritage but Azuolas will confuse the British for the rest of his life, and if you chose Oak I guarantee he would spend his entire school life being referred to by his classmates as Oik, Bloke, Joke, Broke, Croak, Smoke, Poke or somesuch.

I'd suggest a solid boy's name which works in both cultures, like Lukas, Darius or Malone, with Azuolas as a middle name.

QueenOfMyWorld · 12/04/2018 15:59

Oakley sounds better

Rednailsandnaeknickers · 13/04/2018 19:24

Oakley is also a brand of designer sunglasses 😎

onemorecakeplease · 13/04/2018 20:16

His nickname will be woody which isn’t so bad I suppose.

I don’t like Oak I’m afraid.

Mymycherrypie · 13/04/2018 20:20

I don’t like names that are short like that because I think they can sound a bit guttural when they come out. Quick, like a cough or a hiccup.

Atticusss · 13/04/2018 21:29

I think it's a lovely name. You've had the misfortune of your post showing up in active threads and having all the parents with the misfortune of top 10 named children taking it out on you. It's no more odd than Willow, Ash, Holly, Rowan etc

I'd go for a middle name with 3 syllables, I think they go best with one syllable names.

WeirdyMcBeardy · 13/04/2018 21:41

You cannot compare Oak (NOT an actual name) to Holly, Willow and Rowan (actual names).

I see a lot of children's names in my job. Oak is up there with the daft bunch. It smacks of someone trying to be different but lumbering their poor child with a ridiculous name.
