Middle name for Oak

Just had my 20wk scan and confirmed we are having a boy. We had loads of girls names, but no boys names. My DP is Lithuanian, so would like Azuolas which translates into Oak. I really like Oak, but not Azuloas. Name would be Oak, not Oakley.

Can you think of a middle name to go with Oak?

I realise the name Oak is a little unusual and not to most peoples taste. Ideas please?

Oak the Bloke.

I like unusual names but Oak isn't so much unusual but a bit silly. Think about the longer term. Would you go with Brick or Grass - probably not for obvious reasons.

It’s not very often I literally laugh out loud from something I read online but omg your comments I just couldn’t help myself. 😂

Bloody hell, you better hope poor Oak is born with a well seasoned bark because kids are going to have a field day with that one !

fudgefeet · 10/04/2018 13:26

You really don't want to call your child a name that people with have to suppress the urge to laugh on hearing. I met a 'whisper' once and I was not ready for that at all. I felt awful!

Oak Ryest

Oak Hayden?

GilligansKitchenIsland · 10/04/2018 13:36

Having an unusual name doesn't mean you'll get laughed at, and having a "classic" name doesn't preclude you from it. Bet Bear Grylls doesn't get bullied Smile
I think Oak is nice - oak trees are known for being sturdy and living a long time aren't they? Those are nice connotations to give your child.

GilligansKitchenIsland · 10/04/2018 13:40

Will he have a Lithuanian or an English surname, OP? That'll influence the middle name significantly IMO.

ShatnersBassoon · 10/04/2018 13:42

Harold. He could become an amazing Neil Sedaka tribute act.

Oak really is so unusual, I can't imagine it would suit anyone but a strapping young man with bags of attitude. What if he grows up to be very slightly built? He might never live up to a name as mighty as Oak.

worstwitch18 · 10/04/2018 13:43

Gilligans

Bear Grylls name is Edward.

Of course you can have a wide range of nicknames and unusual names but please think; this is something someone will be saddled with for the rest of their life.

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 10/04/2018 13:46

Bet Bear Grylls doesn't get bullied

No I doubt he does because his actual name is Edward Michael Grylls (hmm). The trouble is Oak is not a name by all means call him Azuloas and nickname him oak, at least then he has the choice when older to have a real name.

lunar1 · 10/04/2018 13:48

It's hard picking names when you are from different countries. Dh and I struggled as well. But pick names that are names in at least one of your countries, not everything translates well and Oak isn't a name for a person.

If you like it, change your own name to oak and think of something else for your child.

Loandbeholdagain · 10/04/2018 13:50

I love Oak. Francis as someone suggest above goes well. I think something a little more ‘feminine’ for lack of a better word, works because it’s such a masculine first name.

Seriously OP Oak is a harsh, ugly name. There are so many beautiful boy names please reconsider.

I would use Oak as the middle name instead

Blackbirdblue30 · 10/04/2018 14:16

Bear Grylls may be called Edward but he named his own children Marmaduke and Huckleberry which are a bit of a burden.

Oak is a terrible name. The boys in school will ask him if he's 'got wood'.

jaimelannistersgoldenhand · 10/04/2018 14:29

Bear Grylls went to public school where the range of names are different to the average kid.

Oak is going to end up with a lot of nicknames that are unflattering. For example, Boak (a word farm used on MN) , jokes about wood, Okey Dokey etc

MsMarvel · 10/04/2018 14:32

Im assuming the pp who suggested Hayden was joking...?

Oak Hayden sounds awfully like 'ok then' 😂

This thread 😂😂😂

Particularly like 'got wood' and 'furniture land'.

Op please don't give your kid a name that is going to make him a target for bullying.
