I'd be very surprised to see my name, dd2 her's hasn't come up nor ds2, I couldn't care less what people call their children, if they like the name then that's all that matters.

Itsnothingoriginal · 26/02/2017 21:19

Legend I truly hope not! Grin

HeteronormativeHaybales · 26/02/2017 21:19

It's the Jayden and surname-type ones (not all, but many of them) for me. Plus names like Darcey, Madison, Brooke - so many lovely girls' names out there, why would you?

The long-term 'English names, usually pronounced wrongly' trend over here in Germany curls my toes. Kevin, Jason (pronounced Chase-n), Danny pronounced Denny (not Daniel, just Danny), Eileen (WTF?). I also struggle with some of the greater excesses of German old man/lady chic. We went a little bit that way for one of our dc ourselves, but I think Friedrich and Hannes go a bit far.

needahugekickuptheass · 26/02/2017 21:19

I know a rather common family with several of the names mentioned here 😂😂
The worst IMO being
Shakira and Keena

FreshStart2017 · 26/02/2017 21:20

3 of my DC's names are mentioned here.....now does anyone want to say that Niamh makes their toes curl so I can get 4th DC on the crap name list.

Kazzawazza69 · 26/02/2017 21:20

Claire and Sarah shudder

My nephew's name has been mentioned on here (Harley) - it suits him perfectly.

TheLegendOfBeans · 26/02/2017 21:23

FreshStart

Niamh is a lovely name, used to work with one. When she joined HR made up her name plate and spelled it "Neef".

facepalm

I find that my dislike of certain names comes from knowing people with those names who are horrible.

Jack,
Reece,
Kayden
Kai,
Jayden
Alfie
Mae
Jake,
Jorja (ugly to even look at)
Skyla
Trayvon
Tremayne.
Surnames used as first names and anything hyponated.

Really old names like Doris, Maud etc

ClashCityRocker · 26/02/2017 21:25

I have an irrational dislike of Lexi as a name.

It's a strippers name.

Ruby and Lola too.

I also dislike names that suggest a particular attribute or character type - calling a child Maverick seems a lot to live up to, especially if they're naturally a shy easy-going type.

But if I posted the names I did like, I'm sure they'd get ripped apart. To each their own after all.

Fooshufflewickbannanapants · 26/02/2017 21:28

Aoibheann was one I particularly remember and I actually really like but felt sorry for the girl having to spell it.

Toddlerteaplease · 26/02/2017 21:28

Flynn and fletcher.

Notso · 26/02/2017 21:28

All four of my children's names and two of my names on here. Just need DH's and my dead baby's for a full house.
What a pleasant thread.

Hateloggingin · 26/02/2017 21:28

Lexi-mai, lexi-may, lexi-Mae, Lola, lola-mai (etc)

Sound like strippers

BaDumShh · 26/02/2017 21:30

Lexi-mai, lexi-may, lexi-Mae, Lola, lola-mai (etc)

Agree - any names hyphenated with Mae/Mai make my skin crawl. Horribly twee.

WyfOfBathe · 26/02/2017 21:30

My DD's name is on here but oh well Grin

James - I have an irrational dislike of this name, althoug at the same time I see it as quite classy Confused

Double-barrelled names including "Marie" in English, e.g. Marie-Claire, Anne-Marie. I quite like them when pronounced in French though.

newnamenewnamenewname · 26/02/2017 21:30

I went to school with a girl whose Spanish mother wanted to call her Mercedes. This was long before it was fashionable to name DCs after places or luxury brands. She was beautiful, intelligent, talented and quirky, and she could have carried it off but her rather aristocratic British father vetoed it on the grounds that is infra dig to name one's daughter "after a car". So her mum gave her another (even more beautiful) Spanish name beginning with M...and the "approved upper class" Shakespearian middle name of Portia Grin

I hated my name growing up, it was too unusual and a bit too "stuck up". I longed to have a normal, ordinary name. Then I grew to love it for its individuality once I embraced my own individuality. Now I see it popping up on name threads all the time and hate the idea that it is going to be popular. Aargh... be careful what you wish for!

I guess it's a double edged sword. I now have a name that's associated with youth but could also be a bit of an "old lady" name that has come back in fashion -like some of my clothes-

And, to make things worse, it ends in "y", for those many people that seem to hate "y" names...

AWhistlingWoman · 26/02/2017 21:31

Aw Notso Flowers

Toddlerteaplease · 26/02/2017 21:31

I know someone who's daughter is called Heaven-leigh, Angel Destiny. She's lovely and has two degrees but I just couldn't get passed that name!

Pleasemrstweedie · 26/02/2017 21:32

I know a woman called Maite, pronounced Matey. She's Spanish and apparently its short for Maria Theresa.

Not keen on R'mone - he's a sweet boy, but ...

AYankinSpanx · 26/02/2017 21:34

One of my DD's name has had one mention, the others are alright so far! Mine's really unusual in this country so unlikely to crop up. If anyone mentions it though I'll claim it Grin

wobblywonderwoman · 26/02/2017 21:37

Different horses for different courses.. I teach children with popstar celeb names that are not great.

Also not a fan of the lily-mae names at all!!

But then my brother says my dcs names are boring (classic) so each to their own.

joannegrady90 · 26/02/2017 21:37

Nevaeh
"It means heaven backwards"
So basically hell then Hmm

Masie
Mollie
Ellie May type names
Jayden, Hayden, Caiden..
Grace
Ebony

PunkrockerGirl · 26/02/2017 21:37

Any girl's name ending in 'Mae'
Jaden, Kaden, Kyle, Kylie, Kai. All grim.
Anything hyphenated with 'leigh'
Harley. I've come across two and they were both little shits.
