What are unusual names that have stood out for you in your dc's class?

There is an Alaska which makes me smile every time I hear it and a Francesca and Emma which are nice because they are names that I hardly hear on children.

Tixy (not short for anything i discovered at a party)
Mya-mae (poor girl, what a mouthful)
Twins: evie-mae and ellie-mae

These are 3year olds at preschool. What is it with -mae ? I'd never come across that until recently.

I'm afraid i think i'm very boring and like old fashioned recognisable names. I think some thought is needed to how a name could affect a child throughout life.

also brothers in year 2 and 3 called Stephen and Darren.

There's a girl at DDs school called Ruby-Blue, it always makes me smile because it is/was the name of a nightclub in Leicester square.

Devora · 08/10/2014 21:33

Does no-one else think that Maud-Lynn is HILARIOUS? Funnily enough, nor did my colleagues in the office.... I still crack up every time I think of her, though, so it's working for me Smile

I know a Winter and a Pooky and a Topsy.

Still kicking myself I didn't call my daughter Joan...

Letthemtalk · 08/10/2014 21:38

A little boy called Sunni, dd2 says he's called that because he looks sunny, I don't know who he is but will be on the look out for a radiant 5 year old in the playground.

CocktailQueen · 08/10/2014 21:38

NancyDroop · 08/10/2014 22:58

We have a Circus... rather unusual. And an Etta, which I think is a very lovely name.

MoonlightandRoses · 08/10/2014 23:01

Devora Grin - and was she?

Dimple's the most unusual one I've come across of late.

WildGeese · 08/10/2014 23:01

spiderlight - my great grandmother was called Gin. I think it was short for Virginia?

MaMaPo · 08/10/2014 23:06

Little boy called Odin at nursery, and a little girl Bowie. Both super cute.

Came across a Pinky Dawnbush once which seemed a little suggestive.
