What are unusual names that have stood out for you in your dc's class?

There is an Alaska which makes me smile every time I hear it and a Francesca and Emma which are nice because they are names that I hardly hear on children.

There is a little Polish boy called Timon at baby group, I think that's an awesome name.

I saw a coat peg belonging to Zephyr yesterday.

I imagine him being a proper dude.

Artandco · 11/10/2014 21:24

Ds1 has a friend called Humphrey. He's 4. Rarely used name now. Although many small kids pronounce it 'humpy'

I know an ' Isadorabella'. Kind of sounds like they couldn't quiet make up their mind so added names together

Artandco · 11/10/2014 21:26

Quod - I know x2 Timons in Germany, I think it's one of the 'in' names at the moment

SirChenjin · 11/10/2014 21:28

I know it's very wicked of me, and I apologise in advance - but I do smile a bit at Beau, a chubby little boy with crazy hair, a squint and thick glasses

shutupaboutstarwars · 11/10/2014 23:15

I have met a toddler with dark reddish hair who was called Christian. made me wonder if he had enough hair when he was born for them to deliberately name him after the book....
also met a boy called Alsan

Felix is also a "2 in every class" name in Germany, at least the area where we live.

MrTumblesBavarianFanbase · 12/10/2014 00:02

Oh we have a Mateo too - he's Czech. Don't get many unusual names here, though they popular names aren't all the same as in the UK.
There is a Salome in DDs class, which stands out especially because her 2 sisters have top 10 most popular type names...

BobPatandIgglePiggle · 12/10/2014 00:08

Elvis
Sunny
Lyric
And lots of ellie-mae / evie-mae / gracie-mae type namea

peppinagiro · 12/10/2014 08:53

Temperance!!!

I desperately hope she turns into a crazy hard drinking party girl when she grows up.

Aherdofmims · 12/10/2014 09:37

There is a uriel as ds' nursery. Made me smile as I have two of the more common archangel names and we joked that we would never see a Uriel. Nothing bad but I just didn't think it was used.

Jennifersrabbit · 12/10/2014 09:56

My kids school has two little girls from Poland both called Julia. Makes me smile as it's such a simple and elegant name on a little girl but a couple of generations out of fashion in English - big shame.

Also I like blond angelic Samson :)

NorbertDentressangle · 12/10/2014 10:06

Talking of names that are a generation or two out of fashion I came across a 4 yo Brian recently.

MrsSchadenfreude · 12/10/2014 10:09

Has no-one else thought that Beau-Loxley is going to end up being called Bollocks?

MrsSchadenfreude · 12/10/2014 10:12

May I offer Zinzan and Sunray?

Only1scoop · 12/10/2014 10:12

Peppa I love it.

ThreeAndDone · 12/10/2014 10:31

Faye makes me smile but only because DS pronounces it Fake and also Eunice (pronounced You-niece by DS)Smile

muminthecity · 12/10/2014 12:06

I once met a little boy on holiday, he was about 4 or 5, had gorgeous, shoulder length blonde curly hair and wore surfer type shorts. He looked like such a cute, cool little surfer dude. His name was Reef, it was just the perfect name for him and always made me smile whenever I heard it.

MrTumblesBavarianFanbase · 12/10/2014 15:21

Jenifer Julia is a really popular little girls name atm in Germany too - 3 Julia's under the age of 6 in our tiny village.

I used to think Petra was a lovely name for a girl - I was at uni with a girl named Petra after the city and had never heard it before, nor in the next few years. Then I moved to Germany and its one of the most common "mum" names, the German Claire or Joanne or Sarah - very popular in the late 70s I guess :o

MrTumblesBavarianFanbase · 12/10/2014 15:26

I once taught a girl called Ariel... Her mum confirmed she was named for the ethereal sprite in The Tempest. It, erm, could not have suited her less, poor kid! Also she mispronounced it as are-ee-el due to being American living in the UK

NotATrampoline · 12/10/2014 15:27

DD's new BFF in her class is Story. He's a wonderful little boy and he really suits his name if that makes sense? It sounds an unusual name but then you meet him and yeah he's Story
