Does everyone think the spelling of my chosen name is odd??

Hubby and I just found out we are expecting a little girl.

We have chosen the name Sofee but everyone thinks we should spell it a more traditional way.

Am I just being weird??

I would think you are illiterate. Sorry. You would also be condemning the child to a lifetime of 'That's Sophie, but spelled...' and the person writing it down will be rolling their eyes. Until she's old enough to change it by deed poll.

Sophie is spelled Sophie. Sofee makes you look thick.

I like the name Sophie but I do not think it looks right the way You have spelled it.

I quite like it, as it's different, but I would never ever use it. You (and eventually her) will spend your life spelling it, it will be greeted by looks, and tbh, I'm fairly sure I would think that you a- didn't know how to spell Sophie or b- had made a mistake whilst registering the birth.

I like it, but could never ever use it. However, if your happy with constantly explaining the name and spelling then why not! Just remember that she will also have to do that all of her life..

Sorry, I think its Sophie spelt by someone who can't spell.
Personally I loathe proper names spelt wrongly, but maybe I'm turning into a middle class old fart!

To be honest, I think it's ridiculous spelt that way. And I say this as the parent of a child who has the less-usual spelling of a common name (think Ann / Anne - so still a traditional spelling) I'm sorry. What's your reason for not using the correct spelling? Is it to be 'unique'? If so, I think you are better making up an entirely new name, rather than mis-spelling a common one.

Maybe people think it will save "hassle" when she starts school/spelling it over the phone/ people assuming the spelling but it's your decision. It's nice to be a bit different! It's not like you've just pulled a handful of random letters out and come up with something totally out there! My partner and I are calling our little girl something a bit different and some peoples reactions are quite funny/rude. If people don't like it they can get over it.

alternatively how about Sofie? that's how it's spelt in some other countries, from the greek (i think) Sofia

i wouldn't worry overly about the having to spell it though, people always say that on threads like this.

i have a really common name (Claire) and I ALWAYS have to spell it because of the variations on it. My surname can also be spelled 2 different ways (but is also pretty common/normal) so I have to spell that as well lol

I have an ordinary name with an unusual spelling. In my case, it's a family spelling - my great grandmother's name was spelt like mine.

I think you could get away with Sofie if you want the "f", as that is a recognised variant spelling. Sofee looks like a typo.
