Have been inspired by this thread.

So which names have you only ever heard once?

Can I start of by saying I only know one of the following, all children:

Wolfgang but I do know a wolf too.
Paris
Waldon
Sapphire
Emerald
Troy
Leonie

a lovely lady called Arras after the battle of Arras which her father survived. I think that's the only real unique ( not made up) name I know .

I think we should adopt the African way of naming children after positive attributes though, Precious, Harmony, Beautiful, Serenity are such children I've met over the years and OK I didn't know them as adults but they seemed to live up to their amazing names !

I have seen many made up unique names but I don't think they count, ditto changed spellings.

Most of the " real" names above I know or have heard of .

Is XoXo pronounced sort of 'click click'? Think of the African language with clicks in it, name of which I have forgotten.

Theas18 · 22/01/2014 08:47

Xoxo must be zozo surely?

L'OREAL?! Who'd name their child after a giant corporation? Flipping hell.

Jilted the Emerald I know is in her 30s and lives in London... same one? :)

I think naming your child for positive attributes is asking for trouble... what if Patience turns out to have a foul temper and Grace has two left feet?

RonaldMcDonald · 22/01/2014 09:04

Enzie, Storm, Peregrine, Piers, St John

Cherish
Hunter - love this name.

UriGeller · 22/01/2014 09:05

Yes but they're not always positive attributes. I've heard of a man named Fear of God.

And the African "positive attribute" names are often english words from the bible brought over by the missionaries and "encouraged" to be used by the indigenous people over their own language names which were discouraged as "heathen".
