We had decided on Rufus Caspar.

It was perfect.

We knew no other child with the name,it creates the NN Ru which I adore (can't use rupert or Reuben either),it's not popular but not unknown,it has no terrible associations,it goes brilliantly with our other DC names, and it's cool dammit.

But now a sort-of-relative-family-friend has used it for her PFB,and it will look like we've copied and I know it's childish but I do care about that for some reason.

It's taken me months to settle on a name and now I have to start all over again

It's Not Fair!

HELP ME

Just do it.

Use the name.

Your mutual friends will get over it.

DitsyDonkey · 06/10/2013 19:34

Rafferty

noblegiraffe · 06/10/2013 19:35

Indiana Jones was named after a dog!

Or you could rename the cat Rufus freeing up Rudy for the baby!

FannyMcNally · 06/10/2013 19:36

Rudi Caspar is better than Rufus Caspar, go for that!

Can't use Ru, it's one of DS's MN's

Don't like Ruari, too close to Rory.

Not fond of Cassius or cassias, prefer Caspar.

Never found a MN we loved enough to use Asa as a first.

Love Caspar as a MN,but not quite enough as a first...I don't think...love Rufus more anyhow.

Damn! Didn't see that was the cat's name

RandomMess · 06/10/2013 19:38

I prefer Rudi Caspar too, go for that.

UpTheFRIGGinDuff · 06/10/2013 19:38

Can't use Rupert, close cousins son is Rupert. Sad

RandomMess · 06/10/2013 19:40

The cat won't mind!

TheArticFunky · 06/10/2013 19:40

What about Rafferty?

Ru sounds like a nickname for a female.

FannyMcNally · 06/10/2013 19:41

Two things against Rufus. One it rhymes with doofus and two William Rufus was one of our Bad Kings. So I'd ditch it gracefully if I was youGrin

UpTheFRIGGinDuff · 06/10/2013 19:41

I can't rename the cat or use the cats name for the baby...
DD is on the spectrum and would find it very difficult to process that -basically we'd never live it down, she'd tell everyone we come Into contact with in the next 10 years that the baby was named after the catBlush

I do like Rafferty....bit long with our double barrelled surname though...

We really, really aren't bothered about names sounding feminine Artic

Rudyard

hashtagwhatever · 06/10/2013 19:44

Rucahae?

TheArticFunky · 06/10/2013 19:44

Roscoe?

UpTheFRIGGinDuff · 06/10/2013 19:44

Very good idea Havant I'd have to cut off the entire extended family, and my own parents too...but it'd be worth it though, wouldn't it...

kelda · 06/10/2013 19:44

Raphael?

TheArticFunky · 06/10/2013 19:44

Red?

Definitely not my cup of tea but I have come across a couple.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 06/10/2013 19:45

One thing - you might not find that Ru suits the baby as a nickname, once he's here. We have a Christopher , and I really wanted to use the old fashioned nickname Kit - but it just didn't suit him at all.

But if you like the name, use it and be happy.
