I used to call dd Panda-it is not her name :-)

3boysgirlontheway · 14/08/2012 16:11

I call DD Borance on a regular basis (to rhyme with Florence)

PandaWatch · 14/08/2012 16:31

I was in the hairdressers a few years ago with my DN whilst my SiL was having her hair done. DN was being a monkey. I said something like "start behaving yourself, mister" and the hairdresser said in an I'm-being-polite-but-seriously-wtf-way "ooo - Mister! What a lovely name!". I didn't bother correcting her. She probably started a thread on here about it Grin

Chunkychicken · 14/08/2012 16:38

I know of 2 brothers whose names are Axel and Diesel.

Chunkychicken · 14/08/2012 16:39

Oh and I call my DD Nellybum as a nn.

LadyofWinterfell · 14/08/2012 16:41

DD2 is Pook. Nothing at all like her name, but it often gets a response when calling her real name doesn't! She's 7 next week btw, not a baby.

BrigitBigKnickers · 14/08/2012 16:45

In an airport the other day with parents yelling for Paisley and Dawson...

JennerOSity · 14/08/2012 16:47

Chunky really! As nicknames or proper? Can't decide if that is cool or awful - if I was in the same class as them as a kid I would probably fancy them though Grin

bananaramma · 14/08/2012 16:50

"People do grow into their names though, which is why I am always so about people waiting to 'see what name the baby looks like'. Weird."

bananaramma · 14/08/2012 16:50

Meant to say that I absolutely agree with above statement.

NPPF · 14/08/2012 16:51

olympic are you sure the child is not called "Nially" and his real name is Niall?

duchesse · 14/08/2012 17:10

My MIL's boyfriend is called LeGay, shortened to Gay. Apparently after their family doctor. There was a whole rash of little boy Gays about 70 years ago in that part of Yorkshire.

Chunkychicken · 14/08/2012 17:12

Real names Jenner and they are very much chav types I'm afraid, with mullets etc. I guess they do suit the names then...Hmm

designerbaby · 14/08/2012 17:14

I've a Boogie and a Mouse... It never occurred to me that anyone might assume these were their real names... Both girls btw.

Boogie does like to dance, (but that's not the origin of the nn) but Mouse is probably the least mouse like two year old you're ever likely to meet.Grin

Saw an Aslan the other day (little boy, less than 2 years old).

anairofhopeFORGOLD · 14/08/2012 17:46

On ceebeeies on the birthday card there was a Bunny-Love a little girl who was one Hmm

rugbychick · 14/08/2012 17:54

My DD is called munchkin by me. I think because she's small. Dp calls her grasshopper and bumblebee. No idea why!

popsicle1984 · 14/08/2012 22:00

Recent baby names I've seen appear on Facebook:

Enoch and Vinnie-Rae, the second one is a girl.

Levantine · 14/08/2012 22:03

I had exactly the same experience - met a mum in the park with a child called starsky!

Each to their own I suppose

aliasjoey · 14/08/2012 22:12

Never had a nickname for DD but adore Gypsy. Would it be wrong to start calling her this (age 10)

aliasjoey · 14/08/2012 22:14

My aunt used to call my brother 'Tiger' when he was a kid. Love this also.

Gypsy Tiger. Hmmm. [Pours another glass of wine]

RightsaidFreud · 14/08/2012 22:15

I see your Starsky and raise you a 'MERLIN, MERLIN, COME HERE RIGHT NOW AND LOOK AT THE GORILLA!'

I was at the zoo. But still.

MadStaringEyes · 14/08/2012 22:23

I know a Kalel no appostrophie though.

I always wonder what people think of me calling shoo and baybee.

Ns13 · 14/08/2012 22:30

I raise you a Nemo (in an orange, black and white striped t-shirt appropriately enough) and an Anenome...

surfandturf · 14/08/2012 22:31

I regularly hear shouts of 'Merlin' and 'Matilda'. They have a 3rd DC whose name also begins with an M but I can't remember what it is.

My DD's nickname is Poppers. I haven't really paid attention but I'm pretty sure I would get some funny looks if anyone overheard me calling her that!
