I've had funny looks from people when I've called DD by her nicknames - Sweetpea (like Swee'pea, Popeye's DD!) and Honeysuckle. She is 18, and has a 'normal' name.

SlightlySuperiorPeasant · 14/08/2012 22:49

I saw a thread on here a few weeks ago about a boy called Muffin and wondered if the OP was talking about my DS. His real name is not Muffin.

scarlettsmummy2 · 14/08/2012 22:53

I met a little Bacardi a couple if weeks ago. He was a delight.....

trudat · 14/08/2012 22:58

bridget are you sure it wasn't Pacey and Dawson???

LynetteScavo · 14/08/2012 22:59

Starsky is very cool.

And just for the record DS isn't actually named Jim-Bob, or anything similar on his birth certificate. Even I'm confused about that one!

MorrisZapp · 14/08/2012 23:09

duchesse, I have decided that you are the coolest person on the planet. On the grounds that:

  1. Your MIL has a boyfriend.
  2. His name is LeGay.
  3. He shortens it to Gay.
  4. He comes from Yorkshire.
  5. He is 70.

This is the life I wish I had!

TheEnglishWomanInTheAttic · 14/08/2012 23:15

You can't quite be sure with overheard names though, you'd hear me and both my bigger kids calling "Buggle" to our toddler - it bears absolutely no relation to his actual name, in fact there is only one letter in common and it's not the first one, and is a totally unintended nickname that came about organically and was set in stone by the 4 year old calling him that all the time - if the toddler is doing something dangerous/ destructive he stops when we shout "Buggle!" but laughs when we shout his actual name (which we do also use and he does know is him :) )

thegingerone · 14/08/2012 23:21

dd is "Pixie" which isn't her actual name but could be and would suit her. I'm sure people have wondered.

Her real name isn't Victoria and she's not a pop star btw!

JoMcKillop · 14/08/2012 23:23

My daughters middle name is Phoenix??? Can't say that's odd.
I used to work with a "Tuesday"

SirBoobAlot · 14/08/2012 23:24

DS has a variety of nicknames, though he has recently taken to calling me a "pickle" when I'm doing something he disapproves of Hmm

Know a Miracle and Armani around here...

JoMcKillop · 14/08/2012 23:29

Arwen pmsl

mathanxiety · 14/08/2012 23:31

Dad's oldest sister, her husband and their eldest son were known as Moley, Ratty and Toady by the family. I have an aunt who went by Tommy until she was 16, when she was asked to choose something more ladylike for finishing school purposes.

I know a few Keegans, and also Keaghans -- it's Orirsh doncha know..

Also, the name Sorcia should really be spelled Sorcha and pronounced Surr-uh-kha

I think Starsky is a great name for a chihuahua.

Inneedofbrandy · 14/08/2012 23:38

I know a little girl called Tiger, her mum is my twos gymnast teacher. It suits her so much and I wish I had called my DD. Its way better then Elenor or Rubin or Tarquin. In real life I know no children called MN names apart from Jacks and Hughs.

duchesse · 14/08/2012 23:43

Why thank you Morris.

I think that our time will come. One day. When all our children have left home and we are retired. (will that ever even happen??)

McKayz · 15/08/2012 06:01

I heard Cosmo and Comet at the zoo yesterday. They were brothers I think.

DoNotDisturb · 15/08/2012 09:21

I always read these threads for name ideas as I love unusual names. Luckily my two haven't appeared yet Wink

What's wrong with Arwen though? Sounds sweet..

LurkingAndLearningLovesCats · 15/08/2012 09:30

Arwen makes me cringe because I always think of Liv Tyler in LOTR and how she butchered one of my favourite characters from the books. Blush

If she sad 'I choose a mortal life' one more time.. Shakes fist dramatically Grin

usualsuspect · 15/08/2012 09:33

Whats wrong with Arwin? I wouldn't even say that was an unusual name.

LurkingAndLearningLovesCats · 15/08/2012 09:42

Not my choice of name, I just have a personal vendetta because of LOTR Grin

But I agree that it's not that unusual, and where I only the minority of children have unusual names. It's a pretty name.

DoNotDisturb · 15/08/2012 12:58

Is arwen a real name then or a lotr made up name? It sounded welsh to me.. Or am I making that up??

NoHunIntended · 15/08/2012 15:48

I'd call a son Starsky, it is fabulous.

I had a couple of rabbits when I was a child. One called Starsky, the other called Hutch. :)

DaisyBD · 15/08/2012 16:37

My son shared a childminder with a little boy called Tyger. (He's now an actor and I quite like the name now, maybe not with that spelling though.)

LynetteScavo · 15/08/2012 18:02

I think Arwen is a realy Welsh name, and Arwel.

Your DC shared a childminder with Tyger as in the relentless children and two suffering parents actor, DaisyDB? Cool.

LynetteScavo · 15/08/2012 18:03

DaisyBD, sorry, got your name wrong!

NPPF · 15/08/2012 19:49

Tyger? I had assumed that was a stage name. You mean the one from Outnumbered?
