I know a boy called Toady.

stressheaderic · 14/08/2012 00:30

I've taken to calling my DD Trubs, as in Trouble (which she's not).
I've no idea why I do this, it just seems to come out of my mouth.

amck I know what you mean about accent making normal names sound odd.

I am Glaswegian but live in the highlands nowadays, ds plays with a child called sorcia which in my head should be elegant (sawrsha) but instead it sounds really scruffy (sore-sha) because if the broad accents.

kitsonkittykat · 14/08/2012 01:06

"child had looked exotic..." Seriously? Biscuit

MerryCosIWonaGold · 14/08/2012 08:37

OP, was Starsky a girl or a boy? I totally assumed a boy!

mrsrvc · 14/08/2012 09:09

We met a little boy called defefte (who knows how you spell it!!) on the southbank the other day....

ChickensArentEligableForGold · 14/08/2012 09:22

I don't understand why anyone is Shock about any name, tbh. People just become their name, don't they? Then again, I have an unusual name so just don't see it as particularly relevant.

And I quite like Sapphire (Saffy for short).

Newtothisstuff · 14/08/2012 09:29

My pet name for my daughter is LouLou I get a few sniggers every now and again and it's not even that bad !! Her rl name is nothing lily LouLou haha

edwardrocks · 14/08/2012 09:32

My little boy's nickname is Loulou. Mil thinks he will be scarred for life.

GetDownNesbitt · 14/08/2012 10:41

I know lots of Keegans too.

Little shits, the lot of them.

JennerOSity · 14/08/2012 12:32

I was looking through a recently published baby names book yesterday to get inspiration for dc2 due in october.... one offering for a boy was Gaylord (!) who in their right mind would lumber a poor boy with that particular number? The origin of the name was sensible, but really!

SlightlySuperiorPeasant · 14/08/2012 12:33

There was a Skylark at the park a few weeks ago. Written down it looks alright but out loud it was awful.

nilbyname · 14/08/2012 12:39

I know a...

Wurzel
Phoneix
Rapunzle
Fox
Rocky
Luna
Trixie

Each to their own. I like it!

StellaAndFries · 14/08/2012 12:40

Dd4 calls dd1 Libya, her name is Olivia!

Onthebottomwithawomansweekly · 14/08/2012 12:42

I grew up with a Gaylord, he was known as Gay. Surname began with G too.

My sister had a baby name book of Names Not to Call your Children, the picture on the front was of a name bracelet around a tiny chubby wrist with the legend...Adolf!

MammyToMany · 14/08/2012 12:47

I call my 8 year old boy Holly. We get some strange looks! It's a legitimate shorting of his name though.

MarthasHarbour · 14/08/2012 12:56

I once overheard twins in the park 'Blake' and 'Crystal'

pettyprudence · 14/08/2012 13:00

My GF has always called me "Tom". It's not even close to my real name or nn. I think its an unsubtle hint to wanting a gs Grin. I was 15 before I even realised it was perhaps a bit unusual to call your pfb gc Tom (No really, im 30 and they atr still very pfb about me, it drives my dsis and dbro bonkers)

JennerOSity · 14/08/2012 13:08

Onthebottom really! - how long ago was that? Did the Gaylord boy suffer or was this in the days when gay meant 'bright and cheerful' not saying you look old from here or anything Wink

Feel a little sad for Odysseus (as it's hardly the easiest to spell) but had to ask Chubfuddler what nickname her DD has to get stares ???

winkle2 · 14/08/2012 13:26

Love the names Sapphire and Amethyst but not brave enough!

BobbiFleckman · 14/08/2012 13:28

I think Starsky is a brilliant name and am annoyed i never thought of it / had a boy to call it

(I did have a cat called starsky when I was small...)

insanityscratching · 14/08/2012 13:31

Know a girl called Montana which I think sounds quite masculine and boys called Jet and Ace which remind me of Gladiators. That said though I can't imagine any of them having run of the mill names as they seem to suit their personalities.
