Unusual Boys Names

Hi all,
Pregnant with DC2, got my 20 week scan in 3 weeks and we're hoping to find out what it is but i'd like to have a shortlist of names.
I think we've decided (for now at least) on Delilah Mei for a girl (Mei spelt that way as a nod to one of my favourite films, not a bid to be 'interesting') but really stuck for boys, plus DH and I just can't agree. We have Dexter so it needs to go with that, only other criteria is that it should be unusual but not really weird.

Can anyone inspire me?

I met a Linley on Friday. I don't normally like unusual boys names, but I do like that!

I think it depends what style unusual you want. For example you could go for:

Unusual biblical: Amos, Jeremiah, Josiah, Zadok.

Unusual old man revival: Edmund, Edgar, Leopold.

Unusual historic: Scipio, Pliny, Descartes.

BikeRunSki · 16/10/2011 18:48

I know loads of baby Jensens! I think it was top 20 last year.

Heath is a lovely name for a boy.

rachel234 · 16/10/2011 21:11

I love Eric, Quentin, Clement and Gregory.

I'd have a look at the ONS list of all boys names last year - lots of lovely underused names outside the top 100 or even top 250.

SausageSmuggler · 16/10/2011 21:16

Thank you ladies, lots of lovely names here knew I could count on you!

I've read them all out to DH and we have a few:

Miles (I love love love Milo but DH doesn't so this is a good compromise)
Ethan
Rufus
Dominic (I actually suggested this one last time)
Reuben

We did like Jasper but the middle name would be Peter, after my dad and our surname begins with P so we thought it would be too much of a tounge twister.

Ethan? Reuben? They're not even slightly unusual Grin

Now Bernard will be the only one in his class (unless he's in the class of future DS as I love that name)

rachel234 · 16/10/2011 21:47

Bernard, nickname Bernie is great!

I agree - Ethan, Dominic, Reuben are very popular already. Rufus is ok, a little dog like perhaps. And Miles is the plural of mile to my ears (unless you're not in the UK/US where miles aren't used).

pinkhebe · 16/10/2011 21:51

I know 2 Miles, although I also know 2 Dexters!

hulabula · 16/10/2011 21:54

Miles is too metric imo, it's like calling your son Kilometres, sorry.

I do like Rufus and have to agree that Bernard/Bernie is quite cool.
