Unusual Boys Names

Hi all,
Pregnant with DC2, got my 20 week scan in 3 weeks and we're hoping to find out what it is but i'd like to have a shortlist of names.
I think we've decided (for now at least) on Delilah Mei for a girl (Mei spelt that way as a nod to one of my favourite films, not a bid to be 'interesting') but really stuck for boys, plus DH and I just can't agree. We have Dexter so it needs to go with that, only other criteria is that it should be unusual but not really weird.

Can anyone inspire me?

The thing with names is they're very regional, I haven't come across anyone with the names I said. Funnily enough it's the same with Jack despite being one of the most popular names in England.

What about Rudy, or Rory?

I've got an Ashton, don't know any others directly though have bumped into two slightly older ones in the playground. Def getting more popular though (it is also a girls name in the US though).

I agree popularity is regional (I have seen some sudden clusters of names round here I would never have expected to be that popular) but Ethan does seem to be getting very popular everywhere - I have heard of several baby Ethans recently and lots of people have said it is on their lists.

Ethan is Danii Minogue's son. Any sleb-related name will see a rise in popularity, not that that means the name is any less nice or otherwise.

we used your criteria and then our friends called their son the same name. So you may find you are wasting your time and should choose your favourite irrespective of popularity

My little boy is Xavier which i think goes very well with Dexter. Dexter is my top choice if i have another boy.

Anyway, OP, a couple of others - a friend's boy is called Felix, and I really like that. Or, as others have said, you could go for a traditional name that's just less popular these days - like Jonathan or Paul (also good in that they go well with most other names). I love your suggestion of Dominic, too - we nearly chose that for DS.

I really wanted Atticus for DS, Scallops, but DH vetoed it. Lovely name.

We've got a Hugo which is quite unusual I think (around here anyway)

our choice in Dexter has NOTHING to do with One Day. In fact reading the book on my honeymoon almost made me go off it for 2 reasons. Dexter was an absolute pecker AND i really don't like the shortening of it to Dex. GRRR

I know three Ethan's born in the last year. Its definitely not unusual if it once was. I forgot about the Minogue baby. I thought it was because Ethan Hawke was a pin-up in the 90's so all of those teen girls are now naming their babies after him!
I have an Ivan and love it.

Another favourite of mine is Jude.

I have a Jonathan (shortened to Jonny) and a Dominic which wasn't very popular 9 years ago (only one in his school) but appears to be getting more popular now. I always liked the name Gabriel (vetoed by DH) and he liked Damien (vetoed by me ). Had 4DSs and as I started with a fairly traditional name for DS1, couldn't go too "way out" with the others.

In a local gaveyard, there is the grave of a little boy who died in the late 19th century and he was called Thorton - always thought it was a lovely name.

Actually that should be Thornton
