Unusual Boys Names

Hi all,
Pregnant with DC2, got my 20 week scan in 3 weeks and we're hoping to find out what it is but i'd like to have a shortlist of names.
I think we've decided (for now at least) on Delilah Mei for a girl (Mei spelt that way as a nod to one of my favourite films, not a bid to be 'interesting') but really stuck for boys, plus DH and I just can't agree. We have Dexter so it needs to go with that, only other criteria is that it should be unusual but not really weird.

Can anyone inspire me?

But is also happens to be the plural of the most widely used measurment of distance in the UK/US. One mile, two miles. But perhaps some of you don't make that mental association, I do though.

My DS is called Sennen James, and i am now 35wks with my second boy and have had similar problems. However DH and I have finally agreed on Reagan Scott.

Finding THE name is such a minefield. I must admit that i did have a lot of (unwelcome) input from the mother in law. (DH comes from a family of brians, Sams and steves- oh and sons named after fathers which I HATE!)

some suggestions i had were

Finlay
Ely
Drew
Elijah
Roman

I have a Fraser.
I live in the Highlands though, so it's not that unusual, though according to my English SIL who runs a playgroup it's never used down south.

Loving Sennen mommom, one of my favourite places in the UK, so will be adding that to my shortlist, hope you don't mind!

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 17/10/2011 14:13

Love:

Lysander
Benedict
Elias
Sholto
Zander (not as in short for Alexander, just on its own)

re: "Mei" - instead of using this as a reference to your favourite film, why not use "Meh" as a tribute to mumsnet Grin

phlossie · 17/10/2011 14:23

I have a Rufus (which is, imo, THE best boy's name ever!) and I'm struggling for a little brother's name. So far we have on our list:
Albert
Finnian
Roland (though, 'Rat fans!' puts me off)
Fergus
Hector
Felix

DH liked Otis, but I'm not sure.

The names DH has struck off as 'too out there' that were on my list are:
Ezra
Inigo
Otto
Cosmo
Thaddeus
Atticus

And my mum made some suggestions, to which DH's response was 'is she on drugs?'
Merlin
Abraham
Horatio
Titus

Takver · 17/10/2011 14:25

Kester
Giles (similar to Miles but less used perhaps?)
Corin

I love Dominic, and I wouldn't have thought it was that common - more a steady-burner with a few every year?

I also know an (adult) Simeon which I think is a great name, and pretty uncommon.

I love Benedict too, but it does tend to get shortened to Ben which is extremely well used!

Takver · 17/10/2011 14:26

phlossie, what on earth is wrong with Abraham or Horatio??

mopsyflopsy · 17/10/2011 14:32

We have a Quentin, which I love (obviously Smile).

I also like Ezra, Felix, Dominic, Fergus and Amos very much.

phlossie · 17/10/2011 14:34

Ask my DH, Takver! He's a bit conservative, bless him.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 17/10/2011 14:34

phlossie, I very much like Ezra, Inigo and Cosmo from your list.

Corin's nice.
