Crocheters what are you making? Im currently making a bobble hat for my 2 year old, might do a little matching shawl/scarf after.
I normally make amigurumi.

Yep, making a boba cup and it has legs, arms and a straw all of which are make a magic ring with 6 SC, next row 6sc, next round dec in next 3 and so on. It’s all so teeny tiny and fiddly

I hate the final sewing together part - I’d like to make the pieces then outsource that bit!

Pic below of my cushion cover so far (house and tree aren’t sewn on yet so aren’t quite straight.
I’m not sure whether to add a moon, possibly a mini sleigh or something for the sky and maybe a star for the top of the tree? I can’t decide - help!

I knit in the round as much as possible, and crochet things that can be crocheted together or are made as a single piece just to avoid sewing stuff together!!

Love the chicken, nativity and cushion cover!

SunnyRandal · 13/10/2026 20:31

Love those Nativity people, especially baby Jesus 🤣. In our village someone made a similar thing and it was passed around from home to home. Known as The Knitivity.

Love the snow, i think a moon/stars and little sleigh would look nice, i would keep the tree as is, no star, it looks perfect- Christmassy but still outdoorsy 👍🏻.

I would really appreciate if anyone could recommend a book to teach me how to crochet. I have tried videos but I would really prefer a book if possible

You are all so clever and creative! I’d love to learn. Any top tips to get me started? Online or book? What would I need to buy? Should I look for a class? TIA

Thank you for responding:-).

I have found a couple of books on libby (library app) which look helpful (DK a little course in crochet and a crochet starter guide) so fx I can get to grips with it now.

i have tried to get into crocheting so many times and always give up:-(. I am in awe of the amazing things you all have produced x

I learnt on YouTube, once you know the basic stitches single crochet (SC) half double crochet (HDC) Double crochet (DC) you can then start to read the patterns, i tend to look for videos that have the pattern written in the video now so i can quickly skip through and write down the pattern to do later lol.
start with a hook thats slightly too big for your yarn- you won’t end up with tight stiches and have to drop your yarn to try jimmy the hook through, i recently used cotton yarn (generally use acrylic) and it was so much easier as the yarn splits less.
use light colours to start with, its easier to see your stitches- i hate crocheting with black yarn lol.
i tend to only use 3 hook sizes regularly 2.5mm 3mm and 4mm the others barely get used.
stitch markers- buy a load of the cheap plastic ones, you will loose loads! lol
darning needles
some decent scissors- its a pain in the bum when you are holding your work and need to snip something but your scissors just won’t snip through and instead frays your yarn.
safety eyes- only if you plan on making amigurumi.
Pins- again mostly for pinning arms/legs etc in place for amigurumi.
embroidery thread- another thing i use regularly for amigurumi.
Good luck 😊

It is very fiddly and frustrating to start with, i nearly gave up several times before i got the hang of it.

Can I join you! I'm so glad I found this thread. Such amazing work. Loving the nativity scenes. I've been stashing yarn as I keep getting ideas but not the time to do them all. I'm currently working on a beanie to match this scarf. I've just finished. I've also been making a few tortoises!

I couldn't find what I wanted and I'm a bit nerdy. I like the maths in it working out the increases and decreases.

Avie29 · 16/10/2026 21:45

@Yarnandahook yea definitely alot of multiplication involved, especially my 6 times table 😂 alot of amigurumi is increase and decrease by 6 😂.
