@InTheNightWeWillWish I think I may try it with dk - more cost based than anything else really. Wilko's & one of the cheap shops in town stock dk for £1 rather than the £3 ish per ball of thread, even from overseas. I'm going to slowly try one, starting from the beginning, and see how I get on. There's plenty of time...she says!

That said; I've been browsing advent calendar patterns on Etsy & like the three pictured. Not that we need more Advent calendars but they make me happy scattered about the place Xmas Grin

sophs it works out slightly more expensive on Ebay. I'll just nip up to the shop in town; we're going for some uniform & a wander in the random shop of shite (like a poundshop but more random!) next Friday, so I'll get it then.

I've been looking for something small and easy for my Rainbows and Guides too & came across these candy cane holders. Money's going to be tight but I think I can maybe make using up odds and ends as I go (or Wilko/Poundland dk if I don't have enough scraps).

I've been that busy being festive that I haven't looked for shampoo and conditioner bars to try, or for some autumnal/Halloween makes yet though 🎃🍁🍂🧙‍♀️

Flavia that looks beautiful, and the colours do stand out better now (although I liked it before too!).

I'm looking forward to getting the coffee shop wrap finished. I keep making mistakes, which is ridiculous because it's a super simple pattern Hmm. It's just alternating a straight knit row and a knit row with 4 yarn overs. That's it! I keep missing a yarnover and ending up with the wrong stitch count. Fortunately it's not very noticeable, so I just add a stitch where necessary. Idiot!

In other news, I did Parkrun this morning with ds, for the first time in aaages (it's only been back on for a couple of weeks since its Covid closure). I haven't run for months, never mind a full 5k, and I'm hobbling around like an invalid this evening- my hips are killing me! And I can't even have a nice soothing bath, as the bathroom is still out of action (but tiling nearly done, thank goodness)!

Omg @InTheNightWeWillWish a dog scarf sounds utterly adorable! I think I need to see a pic nearer the time😂

@lucysmam I love those advent calendars too! I've seen some crochet wreaths on there with really cute little elves etc you add on top which I might try if I have time!

@lazylinguist I was going to ask how your jumper is getting on? Or have you focused on the shawl?

I have a sock! Pleased with it as it is my first! But a bit annoyed I didn't frog it early on and loosen my tension as it's so obvious now looking at it and I need to make another one to somehow match..🙄😂

lucysmam · 07/08/2021 22:10

That looks good sophs, I do like the yarn! Bed socks need to be added to my list as well.

lazy it's a shame about the bathroom, it sounds like a looooong soak would have been in order tonight 🛀🧼

MerylSqueak · 07/08/2021 23:31

I'm sorry I haven't been posting much. I'm finding holidays and guests exhausting. I am reading though and enjoying all your projects.

Still working away on my scarf. I'm not sure if I will like it when it's done but I'm on my last ball of wool so it's too late to turn back now! Probably...

lazylinguist · 08/08/2021 08:30

@lazylinguist I was going to ask how your jumper is getting on? Or have you focused on the shawl?

Yes I've been focused on the shawl for the moment. I figured I might get it done in time to take it camping! Not sure about that though... we are off on Saturday in the bloody rain ! Will get straight back onto the jumper as soon as I'm done. I was approaching the bottom of the one-colour body, so just the sleeves left to do really (they have Fairisle pattern cuffs).

@lazylinguist oh no! Hopefully they've got the weather wrong! You're like a wizard to me, being able to knit like that 😂

lucysmam · 08/08/2021 19:59

Fingers crossed the forecast improves for your camping trip lazy 🤞

I've finally got round to starting a mat to go under Errol's house; so the fourth mat can go back on the table & that can be set properly. I'm doing it in cotton so hopefully it'll be ok -the little heat mat we use for him doesn't get overly hot so it should be fine, it's more to protect the new shelf unit really.

CrochetBug · 08/08/2021 20:13

Fingers crossed the weather is OK for you lazy
We had a night I'd rather forget and came home with a tent sitting in a few inches of water in the roof box and a broken pole Hmm
Still. It could have been worse. We all survived, mum and DS2 didn't even wake up. (Ds1 only did because I woke him up panicking)

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 08/08/2021 20:15

Thanks for the thumbs up for the changes to the yarn Smile I really do like it better the more I knit it, I wasn't sure at the first few rows.

sophs your sock looks great! Super cosy and comfy.

Lovely colours lucysmam I'm sure Errol would approve Grin

Oh no about the weather lazy I hope it picks up and stays dry! And if it doesn't then I hope your shawl is finished to keep you warm!

InTheNightWeWillWish · 08/08/2021 20:27

sophs this is dog2 borrowing the Christmas scarf last year! Hopefully this year he doesn’t try to eat it!

lucysmam love those advent calendars. I like the idea of making some decorations for the house but I’m very aware I tend to be over ambitious and that I can quite easily spend now until Christmas making Christmas stuff and still not be done.

lazy the weather might change before Saturday, long term forecasts aren’t that accurate so hopefully it gets better. Actually, I’ve been out the last two weekends. Last weekend the forecast was a small chance of light showers and it rained all day. Yesterday it was a high chance of rain all day and the weather was great until about 5pm and we just got fight out at the end!

My shawl is coming together quite quickly (also with a view to camping and spending evenings outside in the cold). I’ve run out of wool for the project though so will have to wait until I’m in town next weekend.

tizwozliz · 08/08/2021 21:00

So cute @InTheNightWeWillWish - makes me want to make Ada a Christmas scarf

lucysmam · 08/08/2021 21:59

Of course Errol approves Flavia! Grin. The final rounds are to be in the "orchid" cotton, since he's an orchid mantis.

InTheNight, yep, I'm fully with you on the being overly ambitious and over-stretching myself in the run up to Christmas thing! Then I flap that "it" won't all get done, or there won't be enough & it all works out ok in the end Confused.

I'm half way through round 9 of the mat - it's worked up quite quickly! Should finish tomorrow, I think. I need to do a few bits off my Rainbows and Guides list first, including work out why the risk assessment opens & lets me edit it, but won't let the other leader edit it for her unit since I sent it out to everyone 🤷‍♀️

lazylinguist · 08/08/2021 22:29

You're like a wizard to me, being able to knit like that 😂

Blush Thank you! I definitely spend too much time swearing in counting corner to consider myself any kind of wizard Grin.

We had a night I'd rather forget and came home with a tent sitting in a few inches of water in the roof box and a broken pole.

Yikes CrochetBug! Shock Our tent is nearing the end of its life, so I don't think it will cope with really bad weather!

Oops, been off this thread so long it fell off my “I’m on”! Hope everyone is doing well. Not much knitting here, I bought some yarn to make more squishy pillows. I’ve been using James C Brett Huggable but the colour range is limited so got Bernat blanket big - they’re not kidding with the big part. It’s not usable with any of my looms! I’ve had to buy the zippy looms (there are four pegs on each loom and they click together for whatever size you want) so I’ll have to just wait for those to arrive…they should work, I’ve seen other people use this yarn with them. The pegs are a lot bigger.

sophs29 · 09/08/2021 08:04

Thank you @FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack ☺️

Oh how cute @InTheNightWeWillWish I really really want a pup, but I suppose two little DS's will have to do for now 🙄😉😂 (joking of course..maybe)!

lucysmam · 09/08/2021 11:28

I should probably stop wasting away my mornings on Pinterest...I've discovered "no fuss fish" today! Very cute but I don't think I need one...

InTheNightWeWillWish · 09/08/2021 20:24

tizwozliz that one is a pets at home special from a few years ago but it should be easy enough to replicate (she says). It’s a tube with Pom poms at either end and a small loop on the back that you thread the other end of the scarf through. Dog1 shares her name with someone from Harry Potter so I was tempted to make her a house scarf too, although I can’t imagine her being too pleased with me for that Grin

sophs you can live vicariously through the pups on the thread

@sophs29 don't be fooled by the angelic look, she can be a little ratbag at times, puppies are a lot of work.

sophs29 · 09/08/2021 20:52

Haha @InTheNightWeWillWish you have no idea how much I appreciate all the pupdates on the thread! 😂I get my dog fix for a while 😂

@tizwozliz Im sorry but she's far too cute to be a ratbag..(easy for me to say when she's not mine) haha! She looks so soft and snuggable though! How are her crochet toys holding up?

InTheNightWeWillWish · 09/08/2021 21:29

sophs see, that’s the issue with labradors! The labrador pup here has a face like butter wouldn’t melt. That’s what people were telling me as he sunk his little puppy needle teeth into my ear. It’s also what people say when I tell them that he keeps trying to climb the bookcase to get to the forbidden items on the top shelf Grin Today he spent the entire length of my video call playing at my feet, which sounds sweet until I tell you he was lay under my desk with a toy with knots on it. He was repeatedly throwing it up in the air so the knots hit the underside of my desk. Soon as my video call finished, he sauntered off to go have a little snooze on the rug!

MerylSqueak · 09/08/2021 22:49

That made me chuckle @InTheNightWeWillWish.

She is a cutie, that's for sure @tizwozliz. I like the dinosaur too.

I went to see wool in the flesh that wasn't my local high street store for the first time ever today in John Lewis. I started knitting just before the first lockdown so haven't really been able to see what I like. It was lovely! I didn't buy anything because I went to Liberty afterwards and didn't want to decide before I saw what they had. Which was pretty much nothing. They used to have a great haberdashery (twenty years ago....)

givemebooks · 09/08/2021 23:14

Hi everyone! Might not remember me but I got my first hooks for xmas and took part in the CAL earlier this year! Unfortunately the world kind of got in the way of my new found hobby but I am back and settled in over the weekend making a simple granny cushion now I am on the hunt for my new project and hope you lovely people can help me!

I am wanting to make a Doctor Who Blanket for my son have been looking everywhere for patterns and while I see a few around i am not sure if they will be worth the money? Lots of etsy and ebay i found a really cool free pattern with yarn geekrey that was done as a CAL but none of the links work anymore :(

Does any have links to what they deem is a good pattern? I am a beginner too!

lazylinguist · 10/08/2021 08:28
