Inspired by the Woolly Hugs "Kinship Projects" colour palettes I have decided to create some on my own to share with fellow crocheters & knitters (and anyone else really!)
These are absolutely free to use & I hope you enjoy them as they are or a starting point for your own variations.

Oh and I'd love to see photos of any projects! Smile

And I totally missed out on the purpley-bluey part of your request.
Hang on..

Mittens Take Two:

Emperor, Boysenberry, Wisteria, Royal, Turquoise, Duck Egg (plus I added White as an extra)

Mittens #3:

Lipstick, Aspen, Mocha, Shrimp, White, Lobelia

Sorry, neon kitchen lights just don't show these off at their best!

Thanks - I particularly like Mittens #2.

Fairisle is a type of stranded knitting popularised in Shetland, and often relies on quite subtle combinations of colour to make an impact. Felix Ford writes about it here. I've done the recommended thing of turning the photo black and white to check the contrast, and I think they look good.

Now just what magic did you use to change it monochromatic?!
Wow!

I've been reading about a bit tonight. I was surprised to learn about the Scottish origin, I always thought it was a Nordic thing!

#2 is the colour way I thought you wanted. Smile
the 3rd is based on this pattern that I liked:

There are some beautiful kinds of stranded knitting coming from the Nordics.

I used Snapseed to convert the photo to greyscale but most photo apps can do it.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 01/08/2016 23:50

Maybe that's where my "knowledge " came from. Thanks for pointing it out!.

I've actually used the battery saving option to switch to greyscale. [independent] Grin
I also have an option that changes colors from positive to negative. I use it at night to reduce screen brightness beyond the least bright option. Plus it's quite funky.

Let me know if you have any other colour requests or want me to match photos.
I've saved dozens of fair isle patterns on Pinterest for inspiration and will post a few more combos later this week. Very intirigued by the whole subject, so thank you!

Marvellous, Zing, thank you.
I especially love Pebbles, Sunrise and Exotic.
Inspiring.

Thanks so much for these Zing! I use this yarn a lot and i'm the first to admit I don't have a great eye for colour combinations. I've just made a shawl and the colours don't work at all, I'm starting a new one using some of your ideas. Thanks again :)

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 04/08/2016 13:30

Ooh that's great idambardo!

Which one are you gonna use?

And what was the combo that didn't work? If you tell me the exaxt colours you used maybe I can rustle up something with a few substitutions?

I used to think I can match colurs well, but I just thought that so what, so could everyone else! It's only lately (last decade or so) that I've increasingly noticed that some people feel overwhelmed by colour choices and find it difficult to pick combos that work well.
I don't claim I'm an expert or anything, things I like others might not and vica versa, but I react emotionally/physically to patterns and palettes and I think that ones that make me feel uncomfortable are wrong somehow (for me anyway).

(There's a room somewhere I know where a piece of furniture is covered in mustardy-grey upholstery and behind it there's a very deep, almost black, green wallpaper. They look just hideous together so I normally sit on that sofa so I don't have to look it, but still feel very tense! [weirdo] )

Sorry, misspelt your name isambardo

Marcipex · 04/08/2016 15:23

Zing, I must complain.

You have caused me to want to abandon all my projects and start again with a different colour palette.

Marcipex · 04/08/2016 15:24

Except for your inclusion of Shrimp.

I can't like that one, it's the name.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 05/08/2016 02:30

Hahaha Marci😂
But don't diss it, think of it as padparadscha, the most awesome pinky-orangey sapphire that's out there.
It's a beautiful shade!

(Still better than some Farrow& Ball names - Elephant's breath? Oh pweese! tsk)

And yes, please start over.
