Following on from my other thread I would like to thank you all for pointing me in the right direction wrt learning to knit.

That site you linked to NQC was fab, really good, I have taught myself how to cast on, purl, cast off, and reminded myself of the good old knit stitch! (I have a picture of my trial piece if anyone fancies a larf)

And now I have a project - I am going to knit myself a cosy for my cafetiere. There I've said it, can't go back on it now

So what are you all working on? Anyone want to join me in my Knitting Circle?

because ive breastfed my dd til 23 wks and counting and will be doing blw and wanted a water birth but had a c section and love hand made jewellery

im considered a bit hippy

and that is a quote from my mum

NotQuiteCockney · 11/01/2007 22:16

Um, you're on a knitting thread. You've named yourself after your breasts. I think these facts trump your profession. (And is 'hairdresser' an anti-lentilly profession? If so, why?)

Tatties · 11/01/2007 22:17

I made lentil soup for dinner, does that count?

Aviatrix tell me about your breakthrough

DH seems to feel I am irretrievably lentilly, and points out that I make my own muesli. I knew there was something I did that was stereotypical.

henna is evil according to the law of hairdressing plus

hippys tend towards natural products rather than shiny plastic humongusly spensive ones

and dreadlocks

please dont shoot me i wanna be more hippyish

NotQuiteCockney · 11/01/2007 22:21

Wait, I shave my head. Does that make me a hairdresser, and rescue me from lentillyness?

Making buttons sounds nice. I never use buttons on my knitting, well, I did once, but there isn't that much call for buttons on hats ...

NotQuiteCockney · 11/01/2007 22:22

Is henna evil? It smells funny.

(I used to henna my hair, but then realised it was covering the grey, so stopped.)

I know lots and lots of lentilly folk (one of my friends left to bicycle to Africa, on one of those freaky Dutch bikes, with her hubby and kid), but nobody with dreadlocks, I don't think.

dressedupnowheretogo · 11/01/2007 22:23

wow no that makes you a barber

NotQuiteCockney · 11/01/2007 22:23

(I use clippers. Not a straight razor. I'm not as hardcore as all that.)

dressedupnowheretogo · 11/01/2007 22:25

so wat does make you lentilly may i ask

I guess it's the bf, home cooking, low-meat, knitting, anti-consumerist, oh, and I don't own a car, that all make me lentilly. And the muesli-making.

TooTicky · 11/01/2007 22:40

Can I join please? I have just knitted nearly 2 socks.... and enjoyed it.... although my needle-holding technique is somewhat unconventional. And I'm definitely lentilly.

Mine are baby socks. Well, toddler socks. And they are grey because dd2 needed something warm and there was some nice grey 3ply wool in the charity shop.

Aviatrix, we dismantled the cot a good few months ago now! Ds has a single bed in his room, where he goes to bed, then comes in with us later on. I think he's more comfortable in it and he has been sleeping better, often sleeping from 7ish to 10-11ish without waking (good for us!) I think things are gradually improving, but so gradually that I don't really notice iykwim? It's great him being in a bed though, whenever he wakes I can lie down to give him a feed, and he is disturbed less than when I had to keep getting him out of the cot. Glad things have got better for you

I am currently obsessed with the vintage buttons on PaviYarns. I have bought two sets even though they are quite hideously expensive. Making them would be great- I have made fimo stuff before but ceramic would be fabulous. Pruni, you could sell yours in your shop

Not-very-lentilly tamum.

Tatties · 11/01/2007 22:54

TooTicky, how did you find knitting the socks? Dp says he wouldn't mind some hand-knitted ones but not sure how easy they are for a beginner...

And welcome Womblingalong and Booby
