Following on from my other thread I would like to thank you all for pointing me in the right direction wrt learning to knit.

That site you linked to NQC was fab, really good, I have taught myself how to cast on, purl, cast off, and reminded myself of the good old knit stitch! (I have a picture of my trial piece if anyone fancies a larf)

And now I have a project - I am going to knit myself a cosy for my cafetiere. There I've said it, can't go back on it now

So what are you all working on? Anyone want to join me in my Knitting Circle?

Good evening, well I am sitting here getting on with my cafetiere cosy, going well so far.

Welcome Evilstepmom, Florence, Pruni and Filly You cheeky monkey, the names in the title refer to those who helped me get started with knitting on a recent thread, so nerr But you are most welcome here. It sounds like you are a seasoned knitter! Are you still eating froot and veg?

I like that cowl Pruni. I was wondering myself about selling things you know. What is the market like for things like this?

I cannot believe I have just watched a video of someone knitting! I bought DD2 a kit for Christmas 2005 and having read the instructions (well some of them) it remains in a cupboard. I grew up in a family of knitters and no-one taught me how to do it. I would love to learn so will dig out the kit tomorrow and see how I get on.

Tatties · 10/01/2007 20:37

Hello MM, I am trying not to walk before I can run as well, but it is hard isn't it? For some reason this has just got me so excited Maybe it's just lovely to do something creative and productive again.

Oh hello, I missed this- how nice Glad it's going well Tatties, and Dingle, how lovely to see you- you've been talking about starting again for ages, haven't you?

I am just felting my Noni bag that I've been knitting, just put it in for a third go in the washing machine; it's going well so far. It's this one (scroll down, Adventure bag): Noni bag . I'm also doing another BPT from Knitty. And several other things

Pruni, wot, me

tamum · 10/01/2007 20:41

Got to go and read to dd, but I know lots of free pattern resources marym, will be back soon!

marymillington - my baby dungarees are just garter/stocking stitch - wouldn't be doing them otherwise! v easy. you can be grandiose and simple at the same time imho!

yoyo · 10/01/2007 20:43

Those bags look fantastic but very difficult to make.

marymillington · 10/01/2007 20:52

Tatties · 10/01/2007 20:52

oooh, nice picture Tatties. I suggested to a freind today that she could join Pruni's and my so far non-existent knitting group and she said "and do what?" Sigh.

Right, free knitting pattern sites (not proper links because I want to go and watch CBB)

www.dailyknitter.com/patterns.html

www.garnstudio.com/lang/en/kategori_oversikt.php

www.knitty.com/archive.html

www.magknits.com/archive/

Should do for now

Tatties · 10/01/2007 21:25

Well I will definitely join you next time I am in Ed

These bags look don't look too hard if you want to try a felted bag: booga bag although noro not cheap

kikidee · 10/01/2007 21:41

Could I join please? I have just finished a really chunky scarf and cabled beanie hat for my DS. I am currently knitting baby beanie hats in assorted colours of lovely Sirdar Sublime for my own and various friends' imminent new arrivals.

However, my best thing is my upcoming two part sock knitting class which I am highly excited about. The first evening teaches knitting in the round and the second covers heel turning. I have wanted to be able to knit socks for a very long time so I can't wait. Small things make me happy.............

NotQuiteCockney · 10/01/2007 21:41

Ok, am very lazy. Someone on here posted a link to a bunch of free hat patterns, which included a pillboxy sort of hat, with ridges at the top.

I've decided to do that sort of hat, but wanted to peek at the pattern, but can't be bothered finding it ...

3Ddonut · 10/01/2007 21:44

Tatties - bless! Love the link! I remember being so excited when I finally cracked purling!

Evil - dungarees sound fab!

Tamum - love those bags, agree they look v.difficult though (esp for a beginner such as myself!)

BTW, I'm LOVING the way my nice new scarf is coming along, I don't think it's boring (well it is a bit isn't it?!) but I need a new one and I'm new to this knitting lark!

marymillington · 10/01/2007 21:45

cheers tamum

Ah, right, it was this page.

tamum · 10/01/2007 21:49

No, they're really easy (well, the one I did was- the flowery ones look less easy). Just got it out of the wash and it's felted incredibly well (some might say too much- it's rock hard). I have made lots of those Booga bags as presents- they are pretty easy and really effective.

kikidee, I made my first socks a few months ago, I was very chuffed with myself

Tatties, you're on!

ILoveDolly · 10/01/2007 22:07

hi knitting circle i am soo bored of knitting same old baby things but am too lazy/impatient to do anything for myself. Any ideas of projects?
