Following on from my other thread I would like to thank you all for pointing me in the right direction wrt learning to knit.

That site you linked to NQC was fab, really good, I have taught myself how to cast on, purl, cast off, and reminded myself of the good old knit stitch! (I have a picture of my trial piece if anyone fancies a larf)

And now I have a project - I am going to knit myself a cosy for my cafetiere. There I've said it, can't go back on it now

So what are you all working on? Anyone want to join me in my Knitting Circle?

Ah, I found some patterns on the internet that only use 2 ordinary needles and it is a doddle!

re socks-you can do knitting in the round on 2 circulars. i have instructions somewhere but its a piece of wee really.

Fillyjonk · 12/01/2007 08:58

tick, I don't think you have a snufkin in hemulenland's chance of convincing anyone that you are not a lentil weaver

evilsparklystepmom · 12/01/2007 09:05

morning fellow knitters!

what does tbl mean anyone?(please don't laugh at me if it is ridiculously obv!!)

i think i may be a bit lentilly - i bf, use terry nappies, buy 2nd hand clothes, cook from scratch (and actually use lentils!)and sold my car cos didn't want to use it and contribute to pollution (still have dh's car though so may lose a couple of lentil points for that!)

and of course there is the knitting. am trying to incorporate the odd lentil into dd's dungarees but with any luck she sill do this herself when they are finished.

marymillington - if you like i can send you a copy of my dungies pattern? an oxfam special so it is a bit 70's - do i get extra lentil points for that?!!

tamum · 12/01/2007 10:32

Hello evil (if I may call you that) . It means through the back of the loop- does that make sense?

MegaLegs · 12/01/2007 10:37

May I join your circle of knitters. Still abeginner but had some success with booties. Currently knitting blanket for friends baby but is taking ages.

LittleSarah · 12/01/2007 10:42

Just looking at that PaviYarns site, although the vintage button page seems to be fecked!

Sooooo want Lantern Moon needles!

Am being a bad knitter at the mo, ie, not doing any. However going to get back to doing a stripey cardi I started for dd.

LittleSarah · 12/01/2007 10:43

PS I am a little lentilly and fairly logical.

tamum · 12/01/2007 11:04

It works for me LS- does this direct link help at all? Mind you then you will see quite how much they are.... (more money than sense, I know)

Miaou · 12/01/2007 11:07

tamum! While it is on my mind - did you get that lovely jumper from dh for Christmas? You sent him a link to it at work iirc - can't remember what make it was but it was gorgeous

tamum · 12/01/2007 11:11

Oh yes, I did Miaou (talking of more money than sense...) It was absolutely lovely- from Brora, incredibly soft. Thank you for asking

Earthymama · 12/01/2007 11:12

Hi, am inspired by all this industry to finish little fluffy shrug for 1 yr old.
Did FJ ever say how to make your own needles?
(Am waiting in for gasman so may be suicidal by end of the day; the closest estimate fot ETA 'between 8am and 8pm')!!

Miaou · 12/01/2007 11:15

Ah, Brora - that's it ..... (salivates)

Tatties · 12/01/2007 11:48

Morning all, and hello to more new people

Filly I want to know about making my own needles too...

I reckon I will have finished my cafetiere cosy tonight. Lots of people seem to be doing blankets. I would like to do a patchwork one, lots of squares to try out different stitches. What are the rules for sewing the squares together?

tamum - evil is just fine! not really sure what you mean tbh - is there a diagram you could link to? thanks for your help

evilsparklystepmom · 12/01/2007 12:46

it is tbl while purling btw

LittleSarah · 12/01/2007 12:50

Lol tamum! I see what you mean. How dedicated you are.

gigglinggoblin · 12/01/2007 13:00

can i join too? started a couple of months ago and have managed 2 ninja turtle jumpers, one huge jumper for dh, a baby xmas tree hat, half a thomas the tank jumper and one baby shoe. so am feeling quite pleased with myself but a bit bored of jumpers.

i have heard much talk of debbie bliss, can someone recommend a good book of hers? have got kids ranging in size from -4 weeks to around 10, plus 2 adults, a house and 2 cats (if i get very bored) to knit for. thought i would get one from the library but there are thousands so need recommendations please

Marina · 12/01/2007 13:02

How did I miss this, can I join please?
Am lentilly-ish but not extreme lentillist. I knit in public

welshmum · 12/01/2007 13:04

Hello all, would like to join to please. It's my 2nd winter of knitting and I love it. Have just finished a tank top thing for ds and am very proud of myself.
Fillyjonk - you mentioned knitting a clanger, how hard is that? and where did you find the pattern (I have always wanted to knit a clanger)

tamum · 12/01/2007 13:10

evil, I don't know of a diagram, but instead of putting your needle into the stitch where you normally would, at the front, you go behind the stitch and purl it through, well, the back of the loop. It twists the stitch.

Clanger pattern here , though it doesn't look quite the same as the fillyjonk one she linked to ages ago. I'mm sure she will be along soon.

LittleSarah, thank you- dedicated is a lovely, generous way to put it

Hello Marina

Marina · 12/01/2007 13:12

Welshmum, haven't seen you around for a bit . Arabica is hoping to post some pics of Esja on the blanket soon, bundle managed to deliver it just before Christmas. [Sorry for hijack]
