Cutting the various layers of design took a while, you mask the bits you want protected and Fire the sand at unprotected bits which go opaque, and I did it with I think 3 different masking designs to get the various layers, the fusing of dark blue topped with clear first takes about 11hrs in the kiln, and once design is done, it's about another 10 hrs in kiln in mould to slump Into the bowl shape. I've a thing for hares, love them and all their folklore

SocksRock · 22/11/2015 23:25

Finished the socks, and started a wrap - either for my Mum from Christmas, or I might keep it if it's really lovely Blush

Hi all - we're going to pop this over to Arts & Crafts so it doesn't disappear.

I love this thread -so much gorgeous work Smile

lucysmam · 23/11/2015 17:44

Aw Fatty, she's beautiful.

I got the second sleeve in today. Thought about starting on the skirt but it was close to school pick up & I would have rushed/made a mess so will start that tomorrow if I get chance.

She was annoyed at me because I put her in the pram and she wanted to walk.

lucysmam · 23/11/2015 19:53

I made myself a dress today. I am particularly pleased with it because my mother gave me the fabric 20 years ago, 1 yard of harris tweed checked stuff that wasn't really enough for a dress.

I had some wool/linen left over from something so I used that for the yoke and sleeves. I had problems with the outer yoke and the fabrics giving differently. I found a piece of ribbon which was a great match in my ribbon box (2" too long Smile).

So, effectively a free dress for me today. I think I like it, thick tights and boots and a cardi I reckon.

This is my first attempt at string art. I'm going to be doing some as Christmas presents now I've had a practice

This thread is a heartening antidote to the 'glittery shit' stuff we keep seeing everywhere - so many talented folks, and lots of people doing crafts that aren't the usual.

Really inspiring, thanks for posting your photos. I might post one if I'm feeling brave Smile

lucysmam · 23/11/2015 21:51

Please do Coffee, I'm really enjoying reading and seeing what everyone's up to Smile

This was the original design for my blanket - it's gone a bit awry so I'm just making it up as I go now :)

Got 7 rows done, 8 to go, then need to get my backing fabric :)

Lollipop - my favourite crafts are the ones you can make up as you go along Grin

CoffeeAndOranges · 24/11/2015 10:01

Here's a little cot blanket that I crocheted at the end of last week - worked up very quickly. Am trying to make a little fox motif to put in the corner of it.

lljkk · 24/11/2015 10:43

I have a patchwork quilt to finish. I've made 6 other quilts in last 4 yrs. The patchwork top is finished, I have the soft layer to go in-between. I need to buy the backing (will go for a simple periwinkle type solid blue).

My problem is I'm afraid of my sewing machine!! Very afraid of needles breaking. Argh. I can't quilt the whole thing by hand. Machine was serviced & I replaced my quilting foot so I think I've solved everything that gave me chronic needle-breaking before. Haven't had breaks in a while now, but I'm still a nervous ninny. I have general chronic nervous ninny feelings towards the sewing machine, anyway, and can't face experimenting with tensions, reading a million bits of advice how to avoid broken needles, etc.

Anyone gotten over fear-of-machine before and can sympathise or support?

Pathetically yours...

CantSee4Looking · 24/11/2015 23:16

I have had problems with my machine breaking needles and losing tension and is usually a sign I need to defluff and give it a drop of oil. Which generally sets it right again until I try to use a light needle for heavy material or hit a pin and bend it (because I am trying to sew and parent which never works)

bookbook · 25/11/2015 22:50

It should be fine now lljkk if it has been serviced.
Mine had a go at that last year, it needed a good oil, but is as good as new now. Its 35 years old ,and going strong, luckily DH services mine! He did ask whether I needed/wanted a new one, and I nearly fainted - how on earth would I get it out and just sew, without needing the instruction manual ? Grin

MeolsCop · 25/11/2015 23:24

I finished a lace shawl (a present for someone - their choice of colour). Also a pair of self-striping socks, and have just started on another pair. I have a knitted cowl that needs blocking, too.

I cut out the pieces for a cowl-necked stretchy top to sew, but need to get cracking on it really. I'm a terrible procrastinator and tend to start loads of projects, then get sidetracked.

I am proud of the shawl, though, because it was my first lace pattern and was a total bloody nightmare

CantSee4Looking · 26/11/2015 10:14

That is a really pretty shawl - crochet or knit?

lucysmam · 26/11/2015 10:53

lljkk, your machine should be fine if it's been serviced I would have thought.

Unless you're like me and don't think to check it's threaded properly before sewing sometimes Blush then panic & post on here in the hopes someone can tell me what's up.

Make sure your needle is good for the fabric & don't sew and parent at the same time Grin that's half my problem.

Meols, that's a very pretty shawl.

My daughter unwrapped her birthday quilt this morning and was pleased with it and with how I'd managed to keep it secret!
