Who's finished something recently? I don't have many crafty friends and love looking at things people have made.

Here's mine: some oven gloves for BIL and SIL who are moving house. One of three projects I'm making out of a pair of DH's old jeans!

Never sewn curves before so I'm chuffed with these Easter Smile and I didn't have to use bias binding! Win! I did have to slip stitch the turning gap closed which was a pain in the bum, but I prefer the look than if I had top stitched instead.

We did a bump cast but not sure what to paint it with?

OwlCapone · 06/05/2014 14:51

My felted crocheted bag is done. The handle can be used three ways - hand bag, shoulder bag and across the body. I love it!

wanttobetaller I've always sewn, but I only started making bags last year. I used a glue-in frame to make a handbag for the first time back in June and they look so professional I'm addicted. I don't always use metal frames. I had a thing for bamboo handles for a bit - see my site for pics! I also find that if someone wants a bag making quickly then the best option is to use the frames which you can attach with a screw on bar. No glue involved. Great for beginners!

Have a look at Lisa Lams U-Handbag site. She's the best stop for beginners as not only does she have a shop (the prices are reasonable on there but bag findings tend to be cheaper direct from china via ebay or etsy -you need to be prepared to wait up to a month for delivery though!) but she has a very helpful blog and also there are free tutorials.

Paper pieced Tardis, now to attempt the Weeping Angel! Free patterns on Craftsy. Then I'll make them into a bag for DD's Dr.WHo mad friend.

I have a bit of a love/hate thing with machine paper piecing; love the result, hate the process!

Wow! lynn Lovely bags, you sound like a very busy woman!

Marking place as I'm on my phone and can't see any photos!

PookBob · 07/05/2014 08:51

OwlCapone - lovely bag, what wool did you use?

Gatekeeper · 07/05/2014 09:05

oh dear God...I am almost swooning with the loveliness on here!

I would love to learn how to crochet; can anyone recommend a tutorial that is fool proof please?

MrsGubbins · 07/05/2014 09:24

I've recently taken up crochet Gatekeeper.. I found the attic24 blog inspiring and on youtube woolywonderscrochet.. although she uses US terms but her videos were very helpful.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 07/05/2014 10:04

I can't remember which one, but I used a three-stage tutorial on YouTube, to learn how to crochet a basic granny square - and then I looked at the pattern to see what it said when I was doing the various steps - kind-of reverse-learned how to read the pattern.

I definitely second Attic24 - her patterns are clear, and the things she designs are so beautiful!

Pook Sorry to badger you but did you see mu request up thread for a yarn hunt? I'm paralysed with indecision, I need your help!

OwlCapone · 07/05/2014 11:33

Great tardis!

Pook the yarn I used was Drops Aaska (currently on offer at Wool Warehouse) and I'm really pleased with how it felted.

OwlCapone · 07/05/2014 11:37

I hereby challenge you to find me some lovely soft DK yarn in purple and green!

Stylecraft Special DK. But don't choose "bright green" as it is neon.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 07/05/2014 11:41

MrsGubbins - I did see your question, and I am sorry I haven't replied to it yet, but I am going to assemble another wreath this week, so I will be able to see how many bits I put on it, and give you a proper answer - sadly I posted the other one off yesterday (it's a birthday present for a friend) so I can't just look at that and count the bits on it. But I will get back to you with the information, I promise.

MothershipG · 07/05/2014 12:10

Thanks Owl, do you have a favourite wool website? Is the Wool warehouse good?

Gatekeeper · 07/05/2014 14:19

this was a small proggy mat wall hanging I made for a crafty swap; petals are a bit skewiff but I liked the colours

I love Wool Warehouse. I also like Deramores and Back Sheep but they don't sell Drops yarn and I really like some of the Drops stuff as it's great value.

Wool Warehouse do free delivery on orders over £25 and it's usually here by the next day if you order early in the day (same for Deramores I think). Not that I've tested this on many many occasions. Oh no no no.

PookBob · 08/05/2014 00:04

MothershipG - sorry to take so long! I had two options really, depending on if you wanted natural fibres, or were happy with acrylic.

Mine is Stylecraft Special DK which is 100% acrylic, but it's really soft. Then to get a bit of variation, you could do the green stripes with a self striping yarn - something like this

www.woolwarehouse.co.uk/yarn/stylecraft-vision-dk-lagoon-1494-100g

Two balls purple, one ball of green would be £6.97 in total.

Or you could spend a bit more and get 100% wool. Three balls of this would be £19.47, and there are so many lovely colours to choose from.

Thanks pook think I'll go for the budget option first and then if I love it I can go with the fancy stuff. Right that's a plan!

cjda is that appliqué? Do you have a fancy machine that does text? I need details and a close up! Smile I started paper piecing my weeping angel last night, it's seriously fiddly!

OwlCapone · 08/05/2014 06:59

Code SC14 gives, I think, a 10% discount at Wool Warehouse.

cjdamoo · 08/05/2014 08:48

Yeah I have an embroidery machine so all I have to do is trim the fabric plus I have a program to design my own emmbys and appliqués My birthday prezzie from Husband a few years back

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 08/05/2014 10:59

I forgot to say that the wreath was a birthday present for a friend - her birthday is today, and I just got an email saying that it is her favourite present!!

Halsall · 08/05/2014 19:31

I've been inspired by this thread to actually finish something - well, ish. I crocheted this bag out of garden twine (got the idea from The Quince Tree blog), and it's been waiting for the handles to be put on. Just finished them, at last. I might line it with some material, though; haven't quite decided.....

PookBob · 09/05/2014 08:34

I've just had an email from WoolWarehouse that all Drops wool and alpaca is 35% off.

There goes my attempt at stash busting.

lynniep · 09/05/2014 09:33

Bit of a random one. Got to play with dollies! These are my entries into the Hell Bunny competition to recreate their dresses (ok I did a coat too!) to try and win a dress of my own!
