This challenge is open to ALL Mumsnetters.

All cards must be made by 19th November.

Challenge Rules.

There will be two teams..."Them" being the non-cardmakers and "Us" being the cardmakers.
When you join up to the challnge, you need to declare which team you will be batting for.

No "Toppers" are to be used.

The card must be made by your own fair hand.

You can use materials of your choice. Peel Offs, glitter, ribbon, fibres, card stock, stamped images, clipart.....all are acceptable.

The card must have a Christmas Theme.

The card must be finished and loaded into the gallery album marked "Them" or "Us" (depending on which team you are in), by the 19th November.(Instructions to upload your card will be posted nearer the time)

This challenge is for enjoyment, so have fun and be creative.

I'm about as artistic as a slug, it's amazing what you can do woth dried leaves / a stamp / pretty ribbon woven through card. Can't draw for toffee though.

For ideas, check out ebay.

hunkermunker · 06/11/2005 20:39

No. It's illegal to bail once you've snorted at crafters. You must rise to the challenge.

Mwahahaha!

jayzmummy · 06/11/2005 20:41

Why no judges. All they would have to do is be impartial and judge each card like the olympics. Then add up and let MN know who won. That way it is fair. But we need 3 judges so one can decide on points. Aaaah go on JM it will be funny. Obviously the pionts for each card will be secret. Just sides

PMSL at this thread - it's like Glue Sticks at dawn. I have card making in my genes as my Mum is an extremely talented card maker (and generally all round crafty-type person) but I'm going to sit on the fence for this one

MrsFrostgetful · 06/11/2005 23:35

me thinks We should vote on To JUDGE OR NOT TO JUDGE!!!! (GETS WOODEN SPOON OUT AND STARTS STIRING!!!!)

But NOT for an outright winner...that would be unfair...but 3 in each category......

3 judges could give each card a mak=rk out of ten... submited to the adjudicater ...who would then post the top 3 in each category...no mention of points...no mention of who actually came 1st 2nd 3rd????

jayzmummy · 07/11/2005 09:01

If judging comes into it then I know three participants who will back out....this is supposed to be a bit of fun and not competitive.

The whole idea is that those who do not craft can try and "have a go"....its not about who's the best....who's the most creative...its about testing out your hidden talents. Before the challenge was set there was a discussion as to whether there should be judging involved and it was decided that there would not be.

I think some of the non cardmakers will be surprised by just how well they will do and may just put some of the regular cardmakers to shame.
Lets just focus on getting the cards made and having fun instead of being so blooming competitive.

If you want competitions then there are many card making forums that hold them....but be prepared for some pretty nasty comments about your cards no matter how good you are, there is always someone out there ready to take a pop.

aha this is the way of the card makers. no judging - got it.
but how will you know that your cards are so much BETTER than ours? will it just be that warm glow inside ?

Jasnem · 07/11/2005 09:24

If there is definitely no judging, and you need more for "them", I would like to give it a try.

hi5 · 07/11/2005 10:07

I'll join the 'us' team, as long as those pritt sticks remain as tools for joining - not fuedal weapons!

MrsFrostgetful · 07/11/2005 10:44

Hmmm...now i see what you mean.... because i am not a 'nasty' person...i assume everyone's the same!!! And i've NEVER ventured on a card making site......and don't think i ever will!!!!

So no more about judging from me!

WigWamBam · 07/11/2005 14:18

Erm ... you know that card we were supposed to make?

Well ... I picked up a few little bits and pieces, and scrounged a few from my MIL (who put on her sour lemon face and made some comment about seting myself up in competition with her) and I sat down to make a card ...

... and I've made 5.

jayzmummy · 07/11/2005 14:54

Its addictive....good on you WWB for having a go

OP posts:
cardQUEENcod · 07/11/2005 14:55

WigWamBam · 07/11/2005 14:56

It's a slippery road ... I shall be after a sissix machine next

pootlepod · 07/11/2005 14:59

WWB you may not get a sizzix machine until I have- I have been after one for aaaagggggeeeesssss

jayzmummy · 07/11/2005 15:05

cod....was your last question
why do you only ever make cards??????

If it was then some of us dont just make cards....some make jewellery and some scrapbook too. Some are knitters, some paint and some do a bit of everything.
