Point scoring using child victims of sexual abuse as their football.
They don't really want to get elected do they?
Horrendous tweet which has been met with almost universal disgust.

Speechless.

They’re disgusting

sashagabadon · 07/04/2023 08:39

Pretty disgraceful.

Flowerly · 07/04/2023 08:46

And a massive can of worms for them in the light of how Labour councils have dealt with CSE. Do they really want a light shining on their record on this?

OP posts:
donquixotedelamancha · 07/04/2023 08:52

If Labour have a policy of toughening up sentences and improving resources for CSE then I think the add is fine.

The courts are too lenient on CSE and the police don't have the manpower to do enough- it's yet another thing the Tories have neglected for a decade.

LizzieSiddal · 07/04/2023 08:55

How stupid can you be? Whichever company came up with this Ad should be sacked.

Seriously? I hope that Sunak's lawyers are investigating a charge of libel.

That Tweet has had 10m views. You’d think they’d have deleted it and apologised by now.

Well quite. Rotherham, Oxford, Telford Councils all have Labour majorities.

They might have done better to refer to the Conservatives performance in the area rather than make a ridiculous claim about Rishi Sunak.

Quveas · 07/04/2023 08:58

How on earth is that disgraceful? They are saying what every other post on the subjet says on this site! Child abusers should be imprisoned. Every time. And I agree with that. The government has had plenty of time to introduce laws like this and haven't done.

And at least Labour can spell the Prime Ministers name correctly.

PomegranateOfPersephone · 07/04/2023 08:58

I absolutely do not trust Labour to lock up dangerous criminals if they claim to have special identities.

FOJN · 07/04/2023 09:01

How on earth is that disgraceful?

They are claiming that Rishi Sunak doesn't think paedophiles should be sent to prison. I think that's a pretty disgraceful thing to say.

ThreeB · 07/04/2023 09:03

The hypocrisy is astounding given that Labour has MPs who are on record as saying they are happy for male rapists to be in female prisons.

Yes I mispelled his name like an idiot. I can, however, spell 'subject'.

Maybe you should read the tweet properly as what it says is that Sunak does not want these criminals locked up. Libellous I would imagine.

Of course it is. Just gives me another reason not to vote for them.

midgemadgemodge · 07/04/2023 09:06

He's pointing out that the Tory party which rishi leads and has run the country for a very long time has allowed this disgusting state of affairs

You worry more about Rishi than the victims of these crimes ?

Flowerly · 07/04/2023 09:07

I honestly think that they are self sabotaging at this point. Idiotic.

They had someone trying to defend it on the radio and they said no to deleting

They dismissed near universal condemnation on Twitter as not real world

Then a whole load of people called in and said the same as Twitter which supposedly is the real world

Labour 99.9% of people are not talking about this

As ever cloth eared and hopeless

I worry that these children and their terrible abuse is being used as a political football by the LP as a way to defame the character of the PM. It's fucking low.

Such a shitty nasty thing to say. NO. Obviously. This tweet says he doesn’t think they should go to prison. Which is not true. They shouldn’t make ads using false claims.

donquixotedelamancha · 07/04/2023 09:08

Yeah, you aren't wrong. The personal attack on Sunak is crass and lowers the tone of politics.

That said, I doubt the courts would see it as Libel- he could change the situation tomorrow if he wanted and a lot of leeway is given for making a political point.

I'm just happy to see discussion being raised and (if it's a genuine policy position from Labour) progress made.

VestaTilley · 07/04/2023 09:09

YANBU at all. Bit rich from them given they were in power when grooming gangs went unchecked. And they’re happy with sexualisation via the RSE curriculum, and exposing women to male predators in prisons.

Flowerly · 07/04/2023 09:11

Good points Vesta

pointythings · 07/04/2023 09:19

Oh come off it. This is no different from the Tory party consistently attacking Keir Starmer over the Jimmy Savile case. I hate it that politics is so dirty, but it is.

And the Tories have been in power 13 years so pointing out that they have done fuck all in that time is perfectly reasonable. It should have been worded less as a personal attack, but still.
