Point scoring using child victims of sexual abuse as their football.
They don't really want to get elected do they?
Horrendous tweet which has been met with almost universal disgust.

Speechless.

It is disgusting. Not least because (1) they are attempting to taint Rishi with Asian trafficking gangs and he is obviously Asian and (2)it’s totally hypocritical given keir starmers involvement as well as various labour counsellors . Both parties have issues in this area - child sex abuse should not be used as a political football.

Isn't it interesting that MN is normally all over any hint of racism (like calling a call centre 'Indian') but it's taken four pages for someone to point out the blindingly obvious point that they are attempting to taint Rishi with Asian trafficking gangs and he is obviously Asian. Instead we get a derail about what Starmer knew/didn't know/did/didn't do about Savile.

Like calling the RF Germans, clearly some racism is OK if you don't like or are politically opposed to the target of it.

Florenz · 07/04/2023 22:00

Most people don't vote Tory thinking that the people they're voting for are good people.

I guess you didn't see Rishi Sunak's performance on Monday.

Florenz · 07/04/2023 22:27

It's a quandry. Politics is a dirty business. Labour politicians really aren't any better people than their Tory counterparts. But to get people to vote for them, as they tend to tax more highly and generally stick their noses into people's business more than the Tories, they have to project an image of moral superiority. But to win an election they have to fight dirty, at least to some extent. So what do they do?

Just in the interests of factual accuracy, the current government has set higher rates of tax than any other in the past 70 years and simaltaneously manage to have lower public services. See for example the 25% cut to the Ministry of Justice budget, which of course means that very many victims of rape and CSE are not supported and the perpetrators convicted.

Notonthestairs · 07/04/2023 22:32

@Clavinova - who sets the maximum (and sometimes minimum) sentences for crimes?

TooBigForMyBoots · 07/04/2023 22:34

ThreeB · 07/04/2023 09:03

The hypocrisy is astounding given that Labour has MPs who are on record as saying they are happy for male rapists to be in female prisons.

The Tory government actually put male rapists into women's prisons!

Flowerly · 07/04/2023 22:43

And are realising what a shitshow it all is and doing their best to sort it all out whilst being hampered by idiots on the left.

OP posts:
TooBigForMyBoots · 07/04/2023 22:49

@Flowerly they have a massive majority. They can ignore the idiots on the left.

Notonthestairs · 07/04/2023 20:27

Raab was secretary for justice twice - so 10 in 13 years!

At least he was concerned about misogny against both men and women, which is more than any of the rest can say.

Notonthestairs · 07/04/2023 22:32

Not the Prime Minister, they are only responsible for the no 10 pot plants and party entertainment.

ConcordeOoter · 07/04/2023 22:57

You have to wonder what the actual FUCK someone was smoking when they went for this, given the very flimsy lid on the CSE of 6 figures of victims up and dow the country...

...and that for the last sentencing review (ie for the current period) Keir Starmer was both on the sentencing council, and the head of the CPS...

...what is actually going on with them, are they TRYING to make it so only the absolute zealots (who appear unable to use google) will vote for them... again?

newnamethanks · 07/04/2023 23:01

It is as bad as the Savile accusation made by Bozo and his cohorts. That was shocking, untrue and unnecessary. This is not an improvment and Labour needs to get a grip and some decent employees to work on their media strategy. Idiots.

jcyclops · 07/04/2023 23:15

The mock-up below is not nice, and like the Labour ad, is not strictly true - the Sentencing Council meeting that set the current guidelines for sexual offences was not in 2010 as shown, it was on 4th May 2012. The minutes show Keir Starmer was one of the 12 members attending.

Incidentally, regarding Johnson's accusations against Starmer over Savile. Johnson received massive condemnation from across the Tory party, and 3 days later clarified his comments :
"Let’s be absolutely clear, I’m talking not about the Leader of the Opposition’s personal record when he was DPP and I totally understand that he had nothing to do personally with those decisions. I was making a point about his responsibility for the organisation as a whole."
In 2013 following the review by Alison Levitt QC, Starmer apologised for the failings of the organisation he headed and admitted Savile could have been prosecuted in 2009.

I think it might be best if the adults stoped the children from taking control of the IT.

Both these adverts are disgusting childish and quite frankly stupid.

Christ sake grow up.

Florenz · 07/04/2023 21:02

Labour too often take the moral high ground. Tories are scum and everyone knows it.

Oh look, it’s Angela.

They are women (according to Labour). Stop being a transphobe. Be a wokester instead.

YDBear · 08/04/2023 02:15

This is from the party whose leader thinks one woman in 1,000 has a penis.

SinnerBoy · 08/04/2023 07:18

Seriously? I hope that Sunak's lawyers are investigating a charge of libel.

It's a seriously crap piece of politics, I agree; Sunak has only been in office for a short time and isn't responsible for sentencing guidelines, which date back to Blair's time.

It's incorrect to say that the sex abuse rings operated only in Labour council areas, they happened in Tory areas, as well. Even the Mail pointed that out, some time ago, albeit buried near the ends of articles.

What about Starmer and the false Tory allegations that he was responsible for not prosecuting Jimmy Savile?

There wasn't much outrage against that.

YDBear · 08/04/2023 02:15

And has But Jeremy Corbyn as a leader.

Yep. It’s the amateur ineptitude that comes across most.

Notonthestairs · 08/04/2023 08:12

Yes it is a truly terrible advert. Johnson repeating QAnon nonsense in Parliament doesn't justify this rubbish.

They should have focused on the 60,000 backlog of cases.
Or the fact that a quarter of courts can't be used because of lack of judges and barristers.
Or that victims and witnesses have to wait 3/4 years to go to court and trials are regularly delayed multiple times.
So it's not like there isn't material.
No point being "tough on crime" if you can't get them in to court!

sashagabadon · 08/04/2023 08:25

I think it’s just the starting pistol for a very dirty election campaign. I guess labour have fired the first shot ( and look how successful it’s been and the traction it has got, they’ll be delighted) and Tories communications will respond. They’ll be thinking of attack lines right now.
it’s politics imo.
as long as particular demography see the ad ( red wall in this case) then job done and who cares if John McDonald or someone on Twitter disapproves

MarshaBradyo · 08/04/2023 08:50

Where do you see the comments from red wall voters? Which paper is the most relevant

Oh, no doubt the Tories won't leave any stone unturned or be too concerned about taking the higher moral ground during their campaign. I imagine, reading some of the posts on here that there are plenty of people who won't say anything about an underhand Tory campaign initiative but will be ready to slaughter Labour if they refuse to play 'nice'.
