Point scoring using child victims of sexual abuse as their football.
They don't really want to get elected do they?
Horrendous tweet which has been met with almost universal disgust.

Speechless.

I'm surprised at this is not an area Labour has historically done that well with themselves and there are many other areas they can find fault with the Tory's.

Rephrasing the lie doesn't make it any more true.

What's the lie? This is nothing to do with not prosecuting people. He WAS DPP from 2008 to 2013. He was responsible for prosecutions being taken. That's what his dept does. If people weren't jailed from their crimes, it's either because the prosecution didn't do a good enough job or the judge decided a certain punishment was appropriate. Gordon Brown had no say over sentencing from 2008-2010 and beither has any PM since. So where's the lie in what I've said?

I think we need to blame the anti growth coalition.

Horrendous way of raising a valid concern. Loses the argument.

I would have preferred a picture of each of the Justice Secretaries over the last 13 years, and something like 'under their watch 4,500 have not been jailed, yet nothing has been done to stop this continuing'.

We've had 9 Secretaries of State for Justice since 2010 so it would be quite a full page!

@Notonthestairs didn't realise it was nine. Just have Chris Grayling and Dominic Raab, that would be enough to get the point over.

Florenz · 07/04/2023 20:01

Labour really need to get tough on crime, all crime. Build more prisons and jail more criminals for longer. And make prisons harsher and more punitive. It's a guaranteed vote winner.

ReneBumsWombats · 07/04/2023 20:02

It's shit PR.

jenandberrys · 07/04/2023 20:07

Massive misstep by Labour

So there are some tories left on Mumsnet. I had begun to wonder.

I vote Labour, this is just embarrassing. I honestly don't think KS and co actually want to win the next GE.

IForgotMyUsernameAgain · 07/04/2023 20:17

This is like the £350 million pound a week to the EU / NHS shenanigans. It doesn't matter if you don't like it, or if it's inaccurate etc etc. It's a marketing strategy to get people to link the current government with poor conviction rates for CSE. The fact that so many people are talking about it on here will help. Fling enough mud and it will stick.

Don't like it? Stop buying shite like the Daily Mail and Rupert Murdoch's nonsense. They've been at this for years (remember the openly gay judge?). Labour have decided that in order to combat this they also need to get dirty. It's a sad state of affairs but I suspect it will be effective.

Raab was secretary for justice twice - so 10 in 13 years!

Notonthestairs · 07/04/2023 20:28

It at least 10 personnel changes.
I had forgotten Grayling was in Justice to be honest!

JudgeRinderonTinder · 07/04/2023 20:33

Double standards on here. The tories are well known for saying all manner of disgusting things, yet people still vote for them and go right out of their way to defend the indefensible. One thing from Labour and they should be hung, drawn and quartered 😂 it makes me laugh.

Whaeanui · 07/04/2023 20:36

Well who the fuck are we meant to vote for if Labour are just as bad? Why would I vote for any of these selfish fucking bastards?

Clavinova · 07/04/2023 20:38

A Labour attack on Rishi Sunak’s record of jailing child sex abusers has appeared to backfire as it emerged that Sir Keir Starmer helped decide sentencing guidelines for the crime.
Sir Keir, now the Labour leader, sat on the Sentencing Council in 2012 when it was agreed the crime should not get an automatic prison sentence, although a maximum of 14 years behind bars was set.
His involvement in setting the guidelines undermines the party’s attack on the Tories for being too soft on criminals convicted of child sexual abuse.

The Scottish Sentencing Council was in the news only a few days ago;

[Humza] Yousaf added: “I can understand again why people are concerned about this particular case, but it’s so important that the government doesn’t intervene or interfere in decisions made by our judiciary.
“The sentencing guidelines are determined not by government ministers, but rightly so by the Sentencing Council, which is led by the judiciary..."

You need to get the Tories out first. Then worry about what replaced them after.

It's like refusing to fight a fire because you can't agree on whether to build a new house or bungalow or block of flats in it's place. All that will happen is you end up with a nice scorched square to look at while the rain pisses on you.

Politicians and diapers need changing regularly and for the same reason.

Also if a politician is guaranteed your vote whatever, then why the fuck would they bother to work for it ? Which is exactly what a lot of comfortably incumbent MPs have twigged.

bizzywiththefizzy · 07/04/2023 20:45

KimberleyClark · 07/04/2023 09:07

It’s no worse than this one I o

Funny I thought about this poster last night when I first heard of this 'frothing' and thought nothing the Tories haven't done 🤷🏻‍♀️

Florenz · 07/04/2023 21:02

Labour too often take the moral high ground. Tories are scum and everyone knows it.

drpet49 · 07/04/2023 21:04

pointythings · 07/04/2023 09:19

Oh come off it. This is no different from the Tory party consistently attacking Keir Starmer over the Jimmy Savile case. I hate it that politics is so dirty, but it is.

And the Tories have been in power 13 years so pointing out that they have done fuck all in that time is perfectly reasonable. It should have been worded less as a personal attack, but still.

This, this and this.

thebaneofmylifeisacat · 07/04/2023 21:05

I don't often agree with John Mc Donald but I do with this

Get a grip Labour this is just silly and probably actionable

If you want to get my vite back

A stop the student imbecility

B define what is a bloody woman

thebaneofmylifeisacat · 07/04/2023 21:13

'Tories are scum and everybody knows it!'

Just the silly nonsense that lost Labour the last election.

Grow up please ffs Labour!!! This government are shite but unless Kier gets better they will win again.

What is a woman?

Policies on law and order (your police and crime commissioner dick head khan shut him up)

Policies needed now on immigration/tax/Ed/nhs! It's not enough to just critisise tell us what the fuck you will change

Stuff like the above makes you me as an old Labour voter weep

Whaeanui · 07/04/2023 21:18

‘At least they’re not the tories’ isn’t enough for me to vote.

SueVineer · 07/04/2023 21:25

It is disgusting. Not least because (1) they are attempting to taint Rishi with Asian trafficking gangs and he is obviously Asian and (2)it’s totally hypocritical given keir starmers involvement as well as various labour counsellors . Both parties have issues in this area - child sex abuse should not be used as a political football.
