Point scoring using child victims of sexual abuse as their football.
They don't really want to get elected do they?
Horrendous tweet which has been met with almost universal disgust.

Speechless.

Pointing out their errors is not the issue. Saying Rishi doesn’t think child abusers should go to prison is simply not factual.

Flowerly · 07/04/2023 09:23

At least both Labour and Conservatives are speaking up about how appalling this is. It is still there though.

Things are going to get worse In The run up to the GE. It has to or people won't change their voting mindsets 🤷‍♀️

Desiredeffect · 07/04/2023 09:27

I work with children who have been through cse and its disgusting that some of there abusers are walking free whilst these girls are scarred for life

Notonthestairs · 07/04/2023 09:33

I don't like the tweet. I think it should be removed.

I do think sentencing guidelines should be reviewed - I'm sure we all think that regardless of politics.

I'd also like to see the justice system better funded so victims are not waiting 3 plus years to go to court. The backlog is truly horrendous.

But I didn't see the same posters expressing similar outrage when Johnson suggested Starmer protected Savile (in order to distract from whatever his latest lie was).

KimberleyClark · 07/04/2023 09:41

pointythings · 07/04/2023 09:19

Oh come off it. This is no different from the Tory party consistently attacking Keir Starmer over the Jimmy Savile case. I hate it that politics is so dirty, but it is.

And the Tories have been in power 13 years so pointing out that they have done fuck all in that time is perfectly reasonable. It should have been worded less as a personal attack, but still.

Exactly this. Let’s not pretend the Tories would never dream of doing anything like this, because they would.

Whaeanui · 07/04/2023 09:43

Nobody’s pretending anything. This is just about this tweet. We don’t need to justify it with ‘they do it too’ nonsense. We’re parents right? That’s not what we teach our kids

crass and lowers the tone of politics.

You realise you wrote that in a country that was governed by Boris Johnson partying balls deep while peopled died ?

Now that's "disgraceful".

And just to help Google, it's worth dropping in here the allegation that the Blond Brombsheller himself made against Kier Starmer and Savile in the Commons

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2022/feb/01/boris-johnson-keir-starmer-jimmy-savile-smear-julian-smith

That being said, there are so many reasons to despise Rishi Sunak, it's a waste of ammunition having to stretch so far. Just stick to the low hanging fruit. Don't be too clever.

Speaker rebukes Boris Johnson for remarks about Starmer and Savile

Lindsay Hoyle criticises PM’s comments but does not demand apology, after former Tory chief whip condemned the ‘smear’

Once again we get 'they said worse'. So juvenile.

You started it.

sst1234 · 07/04/2023 10:13

Of all the things Labour could Tories for, they pick this. Talk about people in glass houses.

Tories are absolutely corrupt and incompetent and a million miles from being conservative. Yet Labour choose this own goal. Just shows that the next government will be even worse than this.

All of the MPs involved are grown adults and don't need to be parented therefore it's irrelevant what we would teach our children.

The Tories have used tactics like this for years, they can't now act like wounded little lambs because it's been turned back on them.

Except it's not true. It was a lie started on social media that has since been fact checked and debunked many times. Starmer was not the reviewing lawyer on the case and in fact commission the investigation into why a prosecution was not made.

EmmaEmerald · 07/04/2023 10:18

Flowerly · 07/04/2023 08:57

Seriously? I hope that Sunak's lawyers are investigating a charge of libel.

Ditto.

This is what I was going to say.

The Tories are going hard on Labour on CSE and Labour have countered hard.

It’s no good telling them, they don’t want to know.

This could be Labour’s slogan

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 07/04/2023 10:22

I think this is a mistake. It might be correct that they have better policy on this but it don’t think it’s the way to go.

If they want to attack the Tories I’d do it on their own corruption and sleaze, not bring victims of sexual assault into it.

Worries me as a Labour win at the next election is literally this countries only hope, and they do something like this. Another Tory term with this lot would be the end of this country.

Completely agree - except for the last sentence.

Personally I can get past this as a terrible error of judgement and attempt at ‘if you can’t beat ‘em join ‘em’. The prosecution figures themselves aren’t a lie.

But also this.

Starmer had nothing to do with that case. He also changed the rules in the light of it to mean that he did have to be informed in future re similar high profile cases.

You honestly believe he wasnt consulted on such a high profile case !

Boomboom22 · 07/04/2023 10:30

What it shows is their incompetent, again, when they defend it on the radio and say its not public opinion. Bit funking rich of labour to say twitter doesn't reflect public opinion, well no ot doesn't always but doesn't stop almost all their policies being based on what the twitter mob wants usually!
