Point scoring using child victims of sexual abuse as their football.
They don't really want to get elected do they?
Horrendous tweet which has been met with almost universal disgust.

Speechless.

It's a terrible ad and should be condemned and it should have been recanted regardless of what the tory party have done in the past.
And it's obviously hypocritical to try and claim that this is justified if you were up in arms over incidents like Johnsons appalling Saville nonsense and the plethora of sycophants who took to the interview rounds to defend something that they were too afraid to repeat

Similarly I think it's fine to call out any posters who are holding this up as a reason for not voting labour while being willing to vote for the tories as being hypocritical and disingenuous, as in those circumstances it does become relevant if "the other side" have done the same but the reaction of their supporters was to defend and justify the behaviour then but criticise it now.

Many people are not voting because Labour have turned into a party they don’t recognise. The criticism is about them. They can’t just rely on, ‘we’re better than them’ when they do things like this.

I think it might be best if the adults stoped the children from taking control of the IT.

Both these adverts are disgusting childish and quite frankly stupid.

Christ sake grow up.

This

its been happening for a while but I think our political adverts have been heading towards the american system of attack the man…not the ball

its tiresome

crass and lowers the tone of politics.

You realise you wrote that in a country that was governed by Boris Johnson partying balls deep while peopled died ?

Now that's "disgraceful".

And just to help Google, it's worth dropping in here the allegation that the Blond Brombsheller himself made against Kier Starmer and Savile in the Commons

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2022/feb/01/boris-johnson-keir-starmer-jimmy-savile-smear-julian-smith

That being said, there are so many reasons to despise Rishi Sunak, it's a waste of ammunition having to stretch so far. Just stick to the low hanging fruit. Don't be too clever.

Ah, whatabouttery. The favourite logical fallacy of people who can't defend the topic at hand.

"Ah, whatabouttery. The favourite logical fallacy of people who can't defend the topic at hand."

Whataboutery is indeed a fallacy. As is holding the same situation to different standards depending on your political slant.

This. Their insistence that men are women, the ludicrous support of the trans cause which has alienated them from many voters, the antisemitism, the vocal hard left that KS cannot appease - it's a long list of shit tbh.

Yes it is a truly terrible advert. Johnson repeating QAnon nonsense in Parliament doesn't justify this rubbish.

They should have focused on the 60,000 backlog of cases.
Or the fact that a quarter of courts can't be used because of lack of judges and barristers.
Or that victims and witnesses have to wait 3/4 years to go to court and trials are regularly delayed multiple times.
So it's not like there isn't material.
No point being "tough on crime" if you can't get them in to court!

3 out of 4 magistrates courts in the county I live in have been closed in the last 13 years.
Does wonders for access to justice...

Oh, no doubt the Tories won't leave any stone unturned or be too concerned about taking the higher moral ground during their campaign. I imagine, reading some of the posts on here that there are plenty of people who won't say anything about an underhand Tory campaign initiative but will be ready to slaughter Labour if they refuse to play 'nice'.

It is almost as if some posters on here missed the Home Secretary and Prime Ministers comments from earlier in the week.

Ah, whatabouttery. The favourite logical fallacy of people who can't defend the topic at hand.

The topic being the government's appaulling record on criminal justice. Not surprising when there have been 25% cuts to the funding of the Ministry of Justice that it is in a parlous state. And the effects of some of those cuts has been to increase costs and inefficiencies.
No wonder no one wants to defend the government's record.

Flowerly · 08/04/2023 10:48

The comments about cracking down on the grooming gangs? It's about time no?

Yes it is about time

the way the tories are talking about it its almost as if they haven’t been in power for the last 13 years!

The Tory insistence that men are women resulted in their disgraceful cedence of women's rights to TRAs during their time in government. Anyone who said at least the Conservatives know what a woman is lied to you.

They have systematically destroyed women's lives over the past 13 years with their policies of Austerity, Brexit and Trans inclusion. They have a 60 seat majority in the Commons, but they won't use it to remove genderwoo they wrote into legistlation and they won't use it to protect women.

thebaneofmylifeisacat · 10/04/2023 13:36

I was really pleased to see John McDonalds comments. Good for him.

In the light of the terrible murders of 2 MPS from either side this personal awful spiteful lowering of standards in politics must stop. Labour should be better than this. Kier is far too weak snd flaky over this as he is over trans issues.

Appalling and for voters like me a total turn off

Kendodd · 10/04/2023 13:51

This is a very low blow. I very much doubt RS is personally against jailing paedophiles. The state of the police and justice system is very much fault of the Tory party and their defunding of the country though and they should be held accountable for practically decriminalising rape, for example.
Like it or not, all the other political parties are held to much higher standards by the press and public than the Tory party.
