I am 6 weeks pregnant and want to tell my Mum, but DH doesn't want to tell anyone till after the first scan and says if we tell my Mum it is only fair if we tell his Mum as well. I don't agree, as I do think it is different as I am the one that is pregnant.

It's not that he wants his Mum to know he just doesn't think it is fair that mine knows before his does.

I want to tell my Mum as I would like to chat to her about it and also would need her to know anyway if anything went wrong and need a shoulder to cry on. But DH never needs a shoulder to cry on so wouldn't need to tell his mum, they don't chat and have that kind of relationship.

Anyone what does everyone think, is he right? am I being unfair?

Its not at all wierd to not want to discuss things with your mother. I didn't even tell mine when I started my periods. What other peoples relationship with their own mothers is like has no bearing on the OP wanting to talk to her mother. In my first pg my MIL knew a couple of weeks before my mother but that doesn't mean that everyone should do that.

If you want to tell your Mum, tell her. If he wants to tell his Mum, he can tell her. If he doesn't, that's his choice.

I think you'll both look back on this in a few months time and wonder what on earth the fuss was about!

I think when you tell your mum is up to you. If he wants to then tell his parents then he can, that's not your job unless you want it to be. It also depends on the personalities of the 2 sets of parents. We told both sets ( but few other folk) with first preg as soon as we found out, as they are nice and can keep stuff confidential and not tell our sibs/ their friends etc. I also felt if I miscarried I'd tell them and they would be supportive. With the second pregnancy we told no-one until 12 week scan.
