To think that it is always unacceptable to call a woman a 'slag'?

I think it is hideous and reinforces the misogyny in our society.

Why do people do it?

yanb even slightly remotely u

Absolutely agree with comments above. I would also put 'bitch' in the same bracket.

YANBU, and I have never quite managed to understand what it means. After careful thought the closest definition I can find is 'A woman who has had sexual relations with more people than me, or had them with someone with which I would not'. That is most of the world for me, and I haven't got the energy to be that judgmental.

UnholyMoley · 07/07/2010 19:23

Couldn't agree more.

Whatever happened to the sexual revolution and equality?

MitchyInge · 07/07/2010 19:24

think the very concept of promiscuity is misogynistic in origin

hate the word promiscuous

who decides what is and what is not excessive sexual activity and drive?

It's unacceptable, as there's no male equivalent AFAIK.

bibbitybobbityhat · 07/07/2010 19:29

Yanbu.

PortiaNovmerriment · 07/07/2010 19:37

Hate it. And trying to excuse it by saying "Oh, I call men slags too" is a bit weak, IMO.

I couldn't really give a shit how many people somebody wants to rub bits with, but the fact is with women, they generally only have to wear a pair of shoes other people don't like to get called it anyway. It is just a term of abuse which draws on years of keeping women down.

BabyDubsEverywhere · 07/07/2010 19:38

Men and women are called slags round here, doesnt seem to be a woman thing?

victoriascrumptious · 07/07/2010 19:57

slaaaaaaag!

Terrible, just terrible.

SherbetDibDab · 07/07/2010 20:06

YANBU

qk · 07/07/2010 20:10

I have to say that I don't understand the problem.

If a woman sleeps with 100s of men, then isn't she a slag?

If a man sleeps with 100s of women, then he is the male equivalent of a slag, for which there is no particularly good word, so a womaniser or promiscuous. Not complimentary in any case.

Isn't using the word slag just calling a spade a spade?

BelleDameSansMerci · 07/07/2010 20:10

Horrible... Hate that word more than any other. Including the "c" word. Just hate it. And, tbh, I think less of people who I hear using it.

secunda · 07/07/2010 20:21

yeah but qk, who decides how many is too many? And why is it bad to sleep with a lot of men anyway?

poshsinglemum · 07/07/2010 20:22

Having sex outside marriage is fine onedeadbadger if both consenting adults are unmarried. Hate the word slag but have used it to my shame when younger.

poshsinglemum · 07/07/2010 20:23

I don't think a women who sleeps around is a slag at all. Ie- me before I had dd.

qk · 07/07/2010 20:28

Well I will decide that 100s is certainly too many!

It is bad to sleep with a lot of men because sex is an intimite thing and it's gross to share bodily fluids with so many people (not to mention the STDs).

Just a question of decency - would you think it was bad to do a poo in a public toilet cubicle with the door open whilst strangers were washing their hands (it isn't illegal or anything)? Just decency again.

MitchyInge · 07/07/2010 20:30

don't think it is fair to impose own arbitrary standards on other people

or to assume is necessarily unprotected sex

UnholyMoley · 07/07/2010 20:30

Are you a bloke, qk?

secunda · 07/07/2010 20:31

So having sex is like taking a crap in public...

your reasons are subjective. I discard them.

foreverastudent · 07/07/2010 20:33

qk- cant you just respect other people's right to disagree with your definition of "bad" "gross" and "decency"?

Nemofish · 07/07/2010 20:34

'your reasons are subjective. I discard them.'

Quote of the week!

5DollarShake · 07/07/2010 20:37

Sex may be an intimate thing to you qk, but to others it is a recreational activity.

If they're consenting and not hurting anyone, how is it 'gross' or 'indecent'?
